Even before the hoopla about the removal of the FPDW and other banks of tiple
play, 50c, and $1 DB (10/7), I had observed the the overall VP inventory was
being replaced with those "fun graphic" 1c slot machines. Even the "not so
cute" slot machines are being replaced to bring in the newest variety of
Texas Oil, the Chippendales, Jeannie and whoever.
I can't believe that the recreational player (visitor and local) are so
enthralled with these nine line, go to the reward level type machines. As
realists, we should not look at VP alone with the argument of the positive
versus the poor paytables but rather that overall picture where NOW those
pesky slot machines are the "rage".
Management many times knows exactly what they're doing. In some of the past
casinos, the countdown for points was more if you were playing VP versus
slots or kino. Table games that need a live person to deal, etc. have been
diminishing for the past 15-20 years. You get so few decisions (events)/hour
while on the machines with no employee needed, the handle has to be greater
for the regular joe.
The delicate balance of what games we want (educated players) versus the
games the fun customers play and the "drop" with the decisions as seen by
management usually lands on the side of the worse game, both VP and slots.
