boycotting 6:5 BJ.......

If you want to boycott every casino that offers 6 to 5 BJ, unfortunately you
soon won't have a casino to play at. It looks like this awful version of BJ
is spreading everywhere, since there are just so many idiots around who like
to play BJ and have no idea what they are doing. With crowded tables and
oodles of players, people are sitting at whatever tables they find and hardly
noticing the difference.

Instead of boycotting a casino, I suggest you write a letter and explain why
you have stopped playing BJ at their casino and are now playing another game
instead.

Also when you see a Single Deck game, ask if BJs pay 6 to 5, and if they say
yes, loudly explain to other people playing the game that you won't play and
that this payoff gives the casino an extra 2% edge and that BJs should pay 7
1/2 to 5.

In general - spread the word as much as possible about how bad this game is.

But the bottom line is that if people continue to play this game in droves,
the way they currently are, the spread will only continue.

When casinos tried to change BJ rules some years ago, the backlash caused
them to change the rules back. But it doesn't seem enough players are taking
action against the insidious 6 to 5.

Speaking of which - more and more casinos have now switched to "dealers hit
soft 17"...with little protest.

You might also "buy-in" for $1000 and then say "You only pay 6 to 5??"
remove your 10 black chips and leave. This might get reported to
upper management if it happens often enough.

The hold is down on the strip. Perhaps because people are leaving
those 6/5 tables quickly.
Let the hold continue to fall and perhaps a few operators will offer
better rules to keep people playing.

I haven't noticed the wretched 6/5 BJ payout on anything other than
single deck games. Is it spreading to Double Decks and shoes? I
don't care about continuous shuffle because I won't play that either.

I WILL play one of their silly side bet BJ variations since they are
still full pay and I can banter with the dealers who continuously
try to get me to "Bet the Royal Couple."

machines, the most popular game in the casino.

Don't forget that most blackjack players don't know how to even play
basic strategy! If casinos get rid of semi-skilled players, they will
be QUITE satisfied.

Sometimes the dealer busts when they hit soft 17, and many unskilled
players notice that. Most 6 to 5 blackjack games are H17 as well.

Even if the house edge is 2.5%, that is still better
than most slot
machines, the most popular game in the casino.

First off, it is more like 1.45-1.80 depending upon
the rules. Even at 2.5% the house edge is much more
player dependent in blackjack than in slots. Your
untrained monkey can hit a spin button and have an
equal chance of hitting the jackpot with a genius. In
blackjack the house edge is against a perfect basic
strategy player or in other words it is accurate
against less than 1% of those players who pretend to
know basic strategy. My guess would be about 1 of
1,000+ play BS perfectly. Result is that the house is
in reality playing several percent higher.

Don't forget that most blackjack players don't know
how to even play

Agree here partially, they want to change blackjack
into a carnival game and just have not figured out how
to do this to the bigger players. If you check, the
6/5 games are dominated by the lowest stake players in
the casino. It may not just be their lack of money
and knowledge, the casinos want more return for that
low stakes seat.

True, and sometimes the dealer turns that 17 into a
18,19, 20 or 21. It is just plain math that H17 is
better for the house. Unskilled players are blackjack
math ignorant players, so they do not know enough to
protest. Again, look at the higher stake games, even
in the same casino, and often they are S17.
The casinos still want these higher stake players and
know that they will loose them if they introduce more
h-17 and 6/5 shoes currently. They are basically
taking extreme advantage of the unskilled, the same
people who play slots, bad VP, let it ride,
roulette,keno etc.

The effect on the hold is this: When you play horrid
VP, slots, keno or any other real bad game in a
casino, you do have the chance to hit a jackpot. You
number could come up on that wheel or you could hit
that royal and get paid many many times over your
initial bet. This chance for the ultimate type payout
keeps people playing these bad games. Now when you
make blackjack just as bad, can you get the same
$4,000 pay out that you get for a royal with a $5 bet?
No, the ultimate payout on a 6/5 blackjack table is a
whopping $6 for your $5 bet. For this reason, in
order to keep the players at the table, blackjack
rules need to be good or the players will leave.
