Hello... There is a local game here in WA at Muckleshoot Casino called
Bonus Match Poker.. basically it is an 8/5 JoB game but has a match
card bonus. If the last card matches after the draw it pays out an
additional 5-15 credits (seemingly random amounts). It hits now and
then and seems to help balance the poorer 8/5 payout. My question is
this-does anyone know the actual payout % on these machines? The
payouts for all other hands are the same as 9/6 JoB. My guess is
around the 98% mark, but any info would be appreciated. BTW I am
headed to Vegas next week, so wish me luck!

The workings of these faux video-poker machines are shrouded in secrecy, but
there is no reason to believe the cards are dealt from a fair deck as they
are in IGT machines. Therefore there is no way of knowing what the payback
is.
Several people have reported that there is no skill involved: if you throw
away a good hand the match-card bonus will pay you anyway.

Unfortunately, Washington State is what insider's call a "Class 2
1/2" state. The result of this is that video poker works like a slot
machine, not a Nevada-style VP machine. The paytable tells nothing
about the return.
This is easily tested. If you are dealt a winning combination, throw
away any or all cards. Magically, a hand of equal value will appear.
Do not play perfect strategy or calculate paybacks in Washington, New
York or Oklahoma -- the 3 technically Class III states that are
really 2 1/2. The same holds true for Indian casinos in all Class II
states. (By the way, this doesn't mean the machines in these states
are unfair or gaffed. They simply don't work the way you might think
they do. But, like slots, they will fairly generate their programmed
return over an infinite number of games.)
In Class III states you can probably be sure the machines deal from a
random 52-card deck.
Hope this helps.

I might try what you mentioned, however there have been times when I
was not dealt a winning hand (such as 2 7's which hits trips) and have
hit a winner on the draw. If what you say is true, how is this
possible? Wouldn't it have come up initially instead of on the draw?
If I had not played proper strategy I would not have hit anything.
People playing 2 seats down were not winning nearly as often as I was,
so I wonder if it is a true video poker game. Is there any way to
know for certain?

Well, you can try to always discard any paying dealt hand and see if
on the draw you always get something at least as good (including the
bonus card). If you do, you should suspect that the machines aren't as
random as one might think.
JBQ
i used to play at the emerald queen, and the mukelshoot casino in washington,. And yes you can throw away the hand or even hold all the cards, and then the match card will pay you what you should of won. Its completly fixed, at one casino, right after you hit deal, you can look down by your credits and it will say game over, before you hold any cards

I just got back from a losing session and tried out what was
suggested.. I had 2 pair and only held one, and voila, the match card
made up for the "mistake". I won't be playing this game again, as it
obviously is just a cleverly disguised slot machine (which I can't
stand playing). I don't think the machines are rigged, per se, but
the payback is nowhere near what a real JoB machine provides. To
those who provided the warnings, thanks for the info.

People keep posting here material about the State of Washington's laws and

Isn't it funny.... just two weeks or so ago we would have all called the Wynn deuces the "VP Story of the Year." Although I've never been to the Gulf Coast casinos, dare I say that the hurricane story is so much more important. How priorities change!

OK! Call me heretical or, in the very least, non-PC, but aren't you really
comparing apples and oranges here.
Yes, we all feel the devastation, the horror, the chaos of what has happened
on the Gulf Coast. But saying that the Katrina story and the Wynn story are
"related" in terms of priorities is a bit of a stretch, in my opinion.
Do you really think that anyone would ever consider the Wynn deuces thing
as the "story of the year", with things like Iraq and terrorism standing in the
background, as well as Katrina?
This, here, at this site, is entertainment and should always be seen as that. A
place where we can get away, at least for a little while, from the real world,
like Iraq and terroroism.
Yes, we all argue and discuss a bit about EV, and PDF's and CLT's, and the
Wynn deuces and JOB thing, but we all stand alike in helping, wherever we
can, to alleviate what Katrina has wrought. Remember the Red Cross,
Catholic Charities, or wherever you would like to contribute! It will make a
difference!
(OK, I will now get down from my soap-box, and a bit of ranting and raving)

Did you notice the "VP" in the subject heading? I believe Steve is trying to make the point that all the VP (video poker, in case you are still confused) lost in the gulf sort of overshadows a few deuces machines at the Wynn. I don't believe he is in any way trying to compare the Wynn incident with the Katrina disaster in the grand scheme of the real world.

Sometimes those stories intersect. My wife and I took a vp playing tour of
Biloxi, Gulfport and New Orleans recently. Normally I would be guilting
myself into writing a TR this weekend, but the prospect of writing about
casinos, hotels and restaurants that just no longer exist is pointless and
depressing. We drove out of NO last Friday morning. The poor people had no
idea what would ensue during the next 7 days. The mood was good and the
town seemed to be gearing up for the tourists and conventioneers coming in
for the weekend. It was our first visit to that area and I really developed
an affinity for NO during the few days we were there. A screwed up,
spirited, beautiful town... Imagine a fantastic party forming around Miss
Haversham and her cake; The town pulled off a permanent state of decay with
style. I've though about the people we ran into while down there, and
wondered what happened to them. The guy at the bar in the Copa in Gulfport
so excited about the orientation for his new job at the Hard Rock. The lady
at Camelia Grill near the Garden District who chased me down an entire block
to return a camera that I had forgotten there, and then refused a to be
tipped. It's something when you have to hope that only their homes were
destroyed. Bad deal.
