This month I was running some friends through a double jackpot promotion. I told them to act like hitting the jackpot was the greatest thing that ever happened to them even though they were only getting a small piece of it. I figured they look much more like recreational gamblers. Maybe a little excitement is warranted for this reason.

Something like that might work on table games to disguise being a card counter, but on machines, they only look at what the computer records reveal.

At times when you aren't actively playing, and sometimes when you are, it makes sense to think about what a ploppy would do. It doesn't cost anything and could potentially prevent an 86ing. I always get mad at my friends that use a water bottle to lock in the button of a progressive slot machine so they don't have to use their hands to play, something no ploppy would never do.

In the case of the double jackpot promo, one of my horses forgot to tip as I asked him too, and we heard from an inside source that all the security and slot attendants were talking about the guys hitting jackpots in the high limit room and not tipping. The casino cancelled the promo the next time it was scheduled. Most likely because they got annihilated but who knows whether something that simple could have figured into things.

That is 100% correct. A lot of casino management show up for drawings. If you win and look very blase about it, that stands out to them. Make a small scene demonstrating your excitement.

I make a distinction between BEING excited and ACTING excited --- especially around an audience.

You are being watched all the time, and now they have audio as well.

Well of course they have all sorts of surveillance equipment, but if you think they are going through that to determine if you are an advantage player, my bet is that you are incorrect. I can just see them paying someone to watch you for hours to determine your skill level on a video poker machine. It’s all computerised now. They feed the computer an algorithm of what they want to see and if you match it you get the offer. They keep changing the algorithms. More and more casinos, now care about your actual results as much as your theoretical if not more, and if you are a winner you may see your offers dropping , and getting excited over a win is not going to change anything. I’ve been playing a long time and I still get a little excited when I get a hand pay, and I still tip when I get a hand pay. It makes zero difference in how the casino treats me.
