Bob Dancer's LVA - 18 NOV 2014

As I stated previously I'm in total agreement with Bob Dancer using max EV. In general anybody who uses any of these other strategies like min Royal is just throwing away money. A post stated that by using min Royal you do much better on the hands you don't get a Royal on. This is true: SO WHAT!! Now you get so many fewer royals that your expectation goes down the drain. Some posts think you get better offers if you don't hit a Royal. The offers must be incredibly better for you to make up what you're costing yourself on the game. In most casinos your offers are based on your coin in regardless of royals. If you like to throw away money then go ahead and use min Royal or other esoteric strategies (it's your money). My advise - always go for maximum expectation. Bob Dancer knows this! Finally in tournaments you should change your strategy to the strategy that gives you your highest expectation money wise for that tournament. Again all you're doing is maximizing your money return and not points on your machine. Pretty simple I think.

But there are times when hitting a jackpot ends a play, such as a
progressive. The duration of a play being unchanged, and not being
concerned with fluctuation, max EV is fine. It has the virtue of
simplicity. Deciding how much to weigh duration and how much to weigh
value can be difficult and is more complicated. If you were playing a
single flush attack machine, would you play as aggressively for the
flush when the light is on as the next flush jackpot indicates and
then play as conservatively for the flush when the light is off as the
value of the next flush indicates? If you had a coupon for an extra
pay for a particular hand, but it was only good for one jackpot, would
you incorporate the extra value of that hand into your strategy?
