This week's article was a real downer. I loved the "Shirley Stories". Sad news. I wish them well.

I found Bob's divorce column sad --- and a little strange (echoing plot elements of the 1995 film "Safe" in which a couple's entire life is completely undone by the wife's "multiple chemical sensitivity.")

I don't know why Dancer chose to share this slice of his private life, but I wish he hadn't.

What happened to those vows "in sickness and in health"?

I have been ill for over a year and my husband is still my best
friend and has taken care of me.

I am absolutely baffled by your selfishness. I cannot believe
that you had your girlfriend help her pack.

Sorry but that is my two cents.

Carol M

The article should be "There's something about Bob". I always figured that it was Bob's way or the highway since Frank left the radio show. This "sad" story, just cemented that feeling. It was more about his finding a new girlfriend than anything else. Good luck Shirley, you will realize you are way better off without him.

Well, what the heck! I started to write something about this, then decided to drop it. But after reading the other commentary, guess I willjump in and give mine. I think Bob Dancer's latest column just absolutely amazed me. He has always seemed like an intelligent, articulate, and very decent human being. I have always liked seeing his columns come out. But, some time back he wrote that short of any really serious mistakes on his part, they (him and Shirley) were set for life. If that were me, for the sake of my wife I would of decided to never set foot in a casino again, and just do analysis, write books, columns, and do radio shows... whatever...all from afar. I think it could of been done. To me, people and relationships are not throwaway items. The world would be a happier place if people realized marriage is a lot more than convenient. (By the way, no, I am not religious---that's not, repeat not, my impetous on this.) Mr. Dancer really, really shocked me on this one. It is his life, but he took it public, so that's my two cents!!

I know a bunch of people who have chosen gambling over family. We talk

"judge not; less you be judged". Lets just wish both of them the best.

Asking the most famous high stakes video poker player in the world to retire before his time is akin to asking Barry Bonds to retire before breaking the alltime homerun record....because his wife developed an exteme allergic reaction to grass or anything that touched it.

For the guy that "goes to meetings" but still reads vpFREE, Bob is not a gambler. Stu Unger was a gambler. Bob is a highly skilled risk taker with a ton of discipline. He is like the casino owner who always plays with an edge. Professional gamblers (terrible name for our trade) know the difference but the folks "at the meetings" don't.

If Bob chose to retire from video poker because of his wife's condition you all know what would happen. The naysayers would come flying out of the woodwork calling Bob's reason for retirement a big lie...."the real reason he retired is because he went broke!!"

Every time I log onto my computer, My Yahoo! homepage pops up with all the recent news. Celebrities announce divorces practically every day. Bob is a celebrity in the video poker world. He announced his divorce. No big deal. Half of marriages wind up in divorce.

Thank God you kind folks don't know my track record with women. LOL.

That's the best commentary yet. I agree %100.

Regards

A.P.

I received some private email tonite after making this post. The naysayers have their bases covered all the way around on this one. If he keeps playing he's a pathetic degenerate gambler. If he retires he's a loser that went broke.

I'd also like to weigh in on this discussion.......................

Unfortunately or fortunately I don't know what all was involved. I'm guessing most of you don't know much more than me. Let it go people. Bob and Shirley made their choices and it's a done deal.
Kudo's Bob for having the testicles to come forward.

After reading the column and some of the comments, it seems to me that Bob revealed way too much information. I am thinking a one or two sentence memo at the end of the column might have been better? Airing dirty laundry in public can be tricky and is never good for the person writing it.

I agree, too much info from Bob.

He should of just said that Shirley held the wrong cards and they got a
divorce!
