It's very easy to test. Spend a month playing video poker, keeping your mind very simple, relying on common sense to decide what to do. Then, spend a month playing video poker making your decisions based on a serious analysis of the math and logic.

It's possible that making use of intelligence and rationality will lead to different, interesting results... as compared to following what superficially seems right based on gut feeling or "common sense."

I very much agree with Bob that these same skills are applicable to life in general.
