I feel that a professional is a person that earn his living by
participating in the activity and most likely a majority if not all
of his primary income is from the activity.
An expert is a very knowledgeable person and hopefully a
professional would also be an expert.
I feel that a professional would play at the highest level possible
for their bankroll and which would return the biggest gain.
Afterall, most of us do want to maximize our income. (Yes, I know
there are other secondary considerations then just the amount of the
paycheck but still the size of the paycheck is important.)
A person that plays quarter video poker could still be an expert but
if they are the kind that are playing quarter so they don't get
handpays, then most likely they are not earning their living by
playing video poker and would not be considered a professional but
rather an expert perhaps.
I enjoy Bob Dancer's articles. They are a great source of
information and give me things to consider as I develop as a video
poker player.
Let's not be super critical over everything and nit-pick every line
of text and look at the big picture. Take the
information/knowledge that is helpful to you and move on. After
all, the price is right -- it's FREE. What better deal could you
ask for?

I think the problem with the article and the comments is a simple
matter of defining terms. There are 4 terms that need to be defined:
1) expert player
2) professional player
3) knowledgeable player
4) recreational player
The first 3 are the source of contention. A knowledgeable player
might play the game at .995 of perfect play. The professional might
be .999 and the expert might be .9999.
I think if Harry, Jean, Bob and someone else on this newsgroup
each defined the terms above, they would have similar but different
definitions. The difference in definition is point of contention
here.
