Bob must have writer's block this week, much of what he wrote on the non-VP end was close to incoherent. I should also add the delicious irony that Bob's writings in part have contributed to the demise of FPDW, and whenever a state introduces Class III slot machines, one of the regs enacted is that machines may not have a base ER of over 100%. Not that it would disappear eventually anyway, it probably speeded up the process by a good 5-7 years though.
Let me give you the Reader's Digest version, this is something I have counseled fellow pros (why do I do this, I have no clue lol, but they don't listen anyway, thank God) and the occasional student.
Here's the rule. Basically, if you can do it, it makes more sense to play the second (or even third best) best game in the house, not the best one.
There are a number of reasons for this, but one of the top two or three is that when you compare the bennies on Casino Loss Leader v. Second Best, quite frequently the second best game will prevail. This is the gist more or less of Bob's article. Reason #1 for me is that I don't want to get tagged as a pro, so I'll let the other pros play the "obvious" game.
Now there are quite a few exceptions to this rule...but I can give you a couple of examples where multiline quarter denom 8-5 Bonus is actually a preferred play over (at Casino A) single line $2 NSUD and (at Casino B) multiline $1 and up NSUD. And there are spots, like a large Midwestern casino, where your only choice is really $1 full pay Pick'em and not much else (they offer $1 9-6 DDB as well, but not worth playing). Actually...the PE was actually a pretty good play there last month.
Let me conclude that if you're truly a recreational player, then just play the best game you can play accurately and can be comfortable with the stakes. In other words, just stick to the FPDW while it's still around and worry about something new later.

In his column, Bob states you should play a higher denomination game that
has a lesser overall payback when the casino offers a 2 or 3X day to
increase your bankroll. You would do this rather than playing FPDW at a steady
income of $6.72 / Hr. over the LONG RUN.
This is to overcome the fact that FPDW won't be around in the future and to
increase your bankroll.
My problem with this is the following:
1. All paybacks are based on the LONG TERM. Casinos don't offer 2 or 3X
times everyday so it doesn't adhere itself to the LONG TERM relationship
but to a SHORT TERM relationship.
2. In my opinion, you should play the highest payback game continually
until it's not offered any more and then go to the next payback. This way
you will increase your bankroll until the game is not offered and then you
will have more of a bankroll to play for the LONG TERM and not lose it all in
the SHORT TERM by playing a game that isn't available for the LONG TERM.
Any comments would be appreciated, both pro and con.
