Re Irony at The Palms --- my ineligibility to earn points and participate in promotions. Incidentally, I have yet to encounter any other person willing to confess to having been similarly restricted

I find the rationale of the mind(s) at the Palms fascinating. The individuals mentioned in the 27 July column, some of whom played more in a couple of days than I did in 6 months, and all of whom obviously are much heavier players than am I, are not "too strong" for The Palms and are invited to a promotion where they are offered a chance to receive thousands of dollars in a drawing, which they considered a worthwhile play

It's shortsighted, but standard casino policy these days is "Losers Only". You probably beat the casino last year, so they backed you off. Dancer probably lost at this particular casino last year, so he got invited, or maybe he got invited if he agreed to write an article about it. You'll notice in the article he mentions that not many people showed up, probably because all of last year's winners got backed off.
