Bob Dancer's CasinoGaming Column - 14 APR 2009

Nevada Gaming Control has stepped in and taken action when casinos have
reduced the value of points already earned, if those points can be redeemed
for cash or "cash equivalents" (like gift cards or free play). If they are
"comps only" points, NGC stays out of it, for the most part.

It is pretty much written in stone that cash back points cannot be taken
away or reduced in value. This is the case even if you are trespassed from
the property. Of course, this only applies to Nevada casinos--I don't know
about other states.

I too used to be one of the "thrifty" players. One of my favorite casinos
(non Vegas) I kept a larger cash back balance- in case I had a bad run or
if my bankroll was low. Such was the case, and I asked for my cash back- it
was exactly half of what I had expected. After talking to the slot club
manager, I found they indeed had cut it in half. Her response was- " Yes we
have received a lot of complaints about this." Well, lesson learned
(expensive), I cash out the end of every trip now.
