Is Video Poker Going to Hell in a Hand Basket?

http://www.casinogaming.com/columnists/dancer/2005/1025.html

Mixed messages in this week's column: Bob sez: (paraphrasing.)

(1) Casinos are our allies and fellow players are our competition???

HUH? You dirty finks! I knew I shouldn't trust even one of you.... you are all
plotting against me, and your Royals are killing these games! I should have
embraced and trusted the casino management all along. How could I think of
them as the enemy? All they do is empty the donation tills every night.

(2) Don't complain about paytables degrading, just learn the next highest-

EV game.

Trust the casinos: they know what's best for you AND Them. Righttttttt.
Why gamble away thousands and expect a casino manager to listen to your
request for a slightly better VP paytable? Quit whining!

(3) Listen to advice from "winning" players. And study.

Wait, other players are my enemy (see 1 above).
Maybe this is a message to my subconcious: like: Bob is good. Listen to Bob.
Buy Bob's software, strategy cards, guides, and books; take my class, Bob IS
a winning VP player. Listen to Bob! But don't hit too many Royals, my enemy,
for that will kill off the good plays...

===========================
note my sarcasm anyone?

I think I'll stay with my existing plan - faith in the almighty RNG. And some
practice on Masque Mulit-play video poker.

Dancer's column has these weird items in it. I have always liked VP as it's a
solitary pursuit: me and my machine. I enjoy yackin' about it with other
players and I don't like to think of anybody as my competition.

If Bob needs to think of us as his competition for some strange reason, maybe
to justify training harder (we're out to get you, Bob!) so be it. But other players
are NOT the competition. You shouldn't need a sense of competition to
inspire your best effort. Go with the Flow....!

And how can we think of the casino as our "friend"? They''ve made billions on
the science of parting you from your money. Is Bob's relationship with
casinos THAT transparent? Don't drag us into your conundrum, Bob!

Hopefully, I've been PC enough in my comments. Cheers, all.
