How fair are they? Is there anything in the state's deal with the Indian tribes where it stipulates that the machines must be fair/random/Nevada machines/etc?

I did some checking on this subject when I first moved to Indian Casino territory. Although there are state regulations regarding types of games and other things, there is no such thing equivalent to the Nevada Gaming Commission. In fact, I've been told by Indian casino employees that each casino has it's own oversight committee (or whatever they call it). Guess who are members of this committee! Tribal leaders that effectively own the casino. This is the case for the smaller ones. Not sure about places like Harrah's and Barona.

What that means is that video poker machines in such places may not even be driven by an RNG. The only thing I do is make sure the machine I'm playing is a known brand like IGT and pray that it hasn't been specially modified for the Indian Casinos. Hope this helps.

George, thanks for the response. That's what I was afraid of - no independent oversight, thus no way of knowing how fair they are. The specific casino I'm thinking about going to is Viejas. Anybody have information about their machines' fairness (or lack thereof)?

My personal opinion is that the only way they
manage the machines is the payout schedule and card
bonuses. Between the reduced payout schedules
(compared to what you can find in Vegas) and the
average person's inability to play correctly, they
don't need to "fix" the factory-preset machines.
