This is excellent news. I was impressed with the mailings I received after
the little play I could stomach on the atrocious paytables that were in
place at the time and the new casino is a definite improvement over the old
boat.
Made a visit to Joliet yesterday. .25&.50 NSU is alive and well in the
bartops at Empress. Play for an hour on Tuesday or Thursdays and get a
buffet comp. I knocked back one set of ducks before my name was called for
poker. Poker Room: A tiny 4 table alcove. You use casino chips and buy in
at the main cage. No auto shufflers. 2 tables of 5/10 HE at the time I was
there and they shift you off the second table as the main table loses
players --Not good if you think the pickings are better at the table you are
being made to leave. Play was mostly loose and very passive. A raise
preflop was highly unusual.
Note: If you're not getting mail from Empress, make sure you are requesting
mail in their database. They had both wife and I as requesting no mail,
which is not something I would ever request.
I can confirm the losses mentioned at Harrah's. The machines I could play a
single line at a time in the roller room are gone. Not much there for me to
do any more except eat and sleep... speaking of which, Van burens closes
(temporarily) and the new restaurant opens in days.
Needed to keep my Harrah's comp account active, so I threw a $50 in a 7/5 SA
spinpoker machine generate a few points and keep the comps I earned at
Caesars good for another 6 months. It was the best paying game I could find
that I knew how to play and I figured the spinpoker played one line at a
time would slow things up and let me kill some time before dinner. You
never know when you are going to get lucky. A royal and a set of aces have
me $1400 up before I have to break for dinner. That was the extent of my
Harrah's play.

We just returned from Bluechip casino in Michigan City and their vp is
indeed upgraded. They now have 9/6 jacks, nsud, 9/7db and 8/5 bonus in
dollar and at least 8/5 bonus in quarter. Thats at a place where the
best game was 6/5 bonus the last time we were there.
