I second the idea of getting the entry fee comped, you always have to
ask, they don't seem to offer unsolicated comps to the tournament.
Betting is key, too few hands for blackjack skill to make much
difference, plus there are times when you have to make some very un-
basic strategy types of play. Position is randomly determined and
rotates throughout the session. There is a good site on the internet
which will give you the key concepts to tournament play, I don't
recall the exact location, but if you enter blackjack and tournment
in google you'll find it. Skill will only take you so far, you do
need some luck. But it is still nice to play a tournament with some
element of skill.

Yes, chip count after 17 hands. I would also agree that position
is at
least as crucial as good play. I only made it through round two,
but in the
second round was forced to be very aggressive because the chip
leader, a guy
who unwisely (I think) was flat betting $300 but catching lucky
splits and
doubles, was going to be betting after me. I was in second after
17 and
busted out at 19. I would suggest asking for a comp. The expected
value is
pretty good if you aren't paying an entry fee.

Yes. Remember that the tournament is less than the usual skill
factor. The
one time I played in it, a girl at my table stood on hard 8. The
pit boss
commented on how fine a tournament play this was. Naturally,
because I was
out of position and she made a stupid bet on hand 20, I tied with
her for
the last advance and no redraw for position in the tiebreak
absolutely
screwed me! That girl did reach the final table.
