Why do you have to file a NJ tax return for hitting a jackpot in AC? I always
request that no taxes be taken out and get pd in full. I've never filed a NJ
tax form.

I love AC but every time I get a

What abut Mississippi taxes???

Gambiling income received in AC is NJ income. It is the same as if you had worked in
NJ. Thus if you hit a jackpot of $1200 or more you should be filing a NJ return since a
copy of the W-2G info is provided to the state where the win occured (in the same way
that regular W-2 info is provided to the state where you live if you currently work
there. Consulta a tax advsior about your specific circumstances, but the general
requirements for filing a NJ return for non-residents are a) NJ Income and b) >$10K
income (from all sources/jurisdictions) if single or filing separately, or >$20K for
married filing jointly. Theoretically you are earning gambiling income even for
winnings not reported on W-2G forms but that is a separate issue.

See http://www.state.nj.us/treasury/taxation/index.html for the complete
instructions to NJ-1040NR
