Best VP Software?????

Travelling to LV next month and although I'll
spend most of my time at the poker tables, I like to play some video
poker.
Does anyone have any preference and/or experience with these two
teaching
programs? WinPoker at https://www.zamzone.com/index.asp
or

These are only 2 products out of several that are on the market. I am
sure that others of this group can point you to other similar
software, maybe even preferred over the 2 that you mention. It
doesn't hurt to examine the entire universe of products that are
available.

Some of us have purchased, use and enjoy all of them. <smile>

In truth, though, you have to make up your own mind, since we all have
our own individual likes and dislikes. What one might find absolutely
super, another might think that it sucks.

But, I am sure that you already know that.

The following article originally ran in Casino Player and explains the
difference between these two products

Introducing Video Poker for Winners
The Best Video Poker Trainer Ever Created

Bob Dancer, January 2007 Casino Player

Video Poker for Winners is computer software designed to help
you play video poker better. And playing better means more money in your
pocket and less in the casinos'.
Video Poker for Winners isn't the only video poker trainer on the
market. It is, however, the best. I was heavily involved in the design
and creation of this product, so that means I am hardly an unbiased
observer on the subject. But if you hear me out, I'll tell you why I
believe it is better than any other video poker trainer on the market.

What Does A Computer Trainer Do?

There are three basic functions of every video poker trainer,
namely

a. To tell you how much a game is worth --- such as 9/6 Jacks or
Better is worth 99.544%.
b. To tell you how to play every hand --- like from Kh Qh Jh Th 9h,
if you're playing a version of Deuces Wild you toss the 9 and go for the
royal, and if you're playing any other game, it tells you to keep all
five cards.
c. To correct your mistakes while you practice --- like if you're
dealt Qh Qc 9d 9c 5h in Double Double Bonus and decide to hold QQ
instead of the proper QQ99, the computer gives you a "Major Error"
message.

This basic functionality is very valuable. Anyone who has not already
practiced on a good video poker trainer is making thousands of dollars
worth of mistakes a year that they don't even know about. The first half
hour you spend with a computer trainer will be eye-opening for you. You
will be amazed about how many mistakes you are currently making. Many of
these mistakes are very easily corrected once you identify them. It
doesn't take long to make big improvements into your game --- which
translates to dollars and cents in the casino.
Video Poker for Winners includes this basic functionality, of course,
but implements it better. The screens you will be practicing on look and
sound exactly like IGT machines. It is the only product licensed to use
these sights and sounds. It is very easy to go from the computer
software at home to the real machines in the casino.

What Additional Features Does Video Poker for Winners Have?

Making the software look and sound more like casino machines is a nice
feature, but hardly earthshaking. In this section, let me tell you many
of the features beyond the basic functionality that make Video Poker for
Winners unique.
Creates Strategies --- A video poker strategy ranks the starting hands
and tells you such things as whether to hold a high pair or three cards
to the royal flush. Depending on the game, a strategy is a list of 15-40
lines that cover every hand.
I've created strategies for numerous games, and can tell you from
experience that there is as much art as science in this process. Every
strategy must balance accuracy with usability. Many video poker games
are quite complicated, and complete strategies would be hundreds of
lines long --- which mean they would be essentially useless to most
players.
Creating strategies by computer is a difficult task. There are a few
strategy-creation programs on the market, but each has its problems.
What makes Video Poker for Winners unique is that after the computer
programmers created the very best strategies they could, I went in and
personally tweaked these strategies to make them more usable.
More Games --- All computer trainers contain Jacks or Better, Deuces
Wild, Double Bonus, etc. So does Video Poker for Winners. This program
contains ALL of the popular pay schedules (with strategies), and many
newer games, like Super Double Bonus, White Hot Aces, Super Bonus Deuces
Wild, and Royal Aces Bonus. Although you can change pay tables and add
more games if you like, Video Poker for Winners starts with a lot more
games than you'll find elsewhere.
More Game Families --- Video Poker for Winners is the only computer
trainer that includes Multi Strike (including strategies for all four
levels), Spin Poker, Super Times Pay, Fifty Play, and Hundred Play. All
so realistic that you'll think you're playing in the casino. The program
also contains Triple Play, Five Play, and Ten Play more realistically
than you'll find elsewhere.
Short Term Bankroll Figures --- "Short term bankroll" calculations
address how much money you need to take to the casino with you if you're
going to be playing 1,000 hands --- or 10,000, or 100,000. Nobody knows,
of course, whether you're going to win or lose today, but the short term
bankroll calculator can tell you, for example, that 80% of the time
you'll lose less than $400, 90% of the time you'll lose less than $700,
and 99% of the time you'll lose less than $1,200. These numbers depend,
of course, on what game you're playing, including pay schedule, and also
the denomination. If you're a nickel player, the numbers presented here
are frighteningly high. If you're a $5 player, they are ridiculously
low.
Long Term Bankroll Figures --- "Long term bankroll" calculations, which
we call "Risk of Ruin" in the program, address the question of how much
money will you need if you play this game forever. If you're playing 9/6
Double Double Bonus, for example, without a slot club, the program will
tell you that you need an infinite bankroll. Since the house has the
advantage on this game, the more you play it, the more you will lose.
If, on the other hand, you're playing 9/6 Jacks or Better (a game that
returns 99.544%) with a slot club that returns 0.67%, the program will
tell you how much money you need to be 99% certain you don't go broke,
or 90%, or 75%, or whatever other figure you choose to enter. You'll
also get these bankroll numbers, for both short term and long, for
Triple Play, Five Play, Ten Play and Spin Poker. This is very exciting
as these figures for multi-hand games aren't found anywhere else.
Slot Club Calculator --- If your slot club gives you one point for every
$7 of play, and you receive $5 in cashback for every 400 points, do you
know how much that is? Many players have difficulty figuring out these
things (and some casinos intentionally make them difficult to figure
out), so Video Poker for Winners includes a module that figures this out
automatically.

Who's Behind Video Poker for Winners?

I've already told you that I'm involved in Video Poker for
Winners, but there are two much bigger fish in this pond.
Action Gaming is the driving force behind the program. These are
the people behind the Triple Play family of games --- including Five
Play, Ten Play, Fifty Play, Hundred Play, Spin Poker, Five Aces Poker,
Five Play Multi Strike Poker, Trade Up Poker, Chase the Royal, Opponent
Poker, and numerous other games.
This is important to the quality of the program in two different
ways. First of all, Action Gaming works very closely with IGT and was
able to obtain and use proprietary information in creating this program.
This makes it far more realistic than you'll find elsewhere.
Second of all, one of Action Gaming's major purposes with this
program is to let people experience their games, which will drive up the
demand for the games in the casino. Action Gaming is willing to invest
quite a bit of money in creating this program, over $300,000 and
counting, in the hope of eventually increasing the number of games in
casinos across the country. Every other computer trainer out there has
to cut expenses in order to make money. In Video Poker for Winners,
you'll receive a lot more quality at no additional cost.
The publisher of Video Poker for Winners is Huntington Press,
probably best known for Anthony Curtis' Las Vegas Advisor. When it comes
to quality information about all sorts of gambling, Huntington Press has
an impressive stable of authors, including (alphabetically) Jeffrey
Compton, Anthony Curtis, Bob Dancer, Peter Griffin, Blair Rodman, Max
Rubin, Michael Shackleford, Jean Scott, John L. Smith, and numerous
others. These folks know gambling, and they create quality products.

How Is Video Poker for Winners Related to WinPoker?

The two products aren't related at all, except that me being
involved with both of them makes them seem related. I represented Bob
Dancer Presents WinPoker for many years. It is an excellent video poker
trainer (it won Casino Player's "Best Gaming Software" something like
eight years in a row) but I no longer am involved with it. The reason
for me "switching horses" is that Dean Zamzow, the creator of WinPoker,
decided that he no longer wanted to update the program. Had he continued
to update it, I would still be representing it and Action Gaming would
have been happy to allow him to include their games --- simply because
WinPoker was the best trainer around. But with no updates for five
years, other programs arose with additional features, Action Gaming
decided it needed its own program to showcase its products.
My association with WinPoker was valuable to me, and I
appreciate the chance to be associated with it, but now I've moved on.
I'm very excited about Video Poker for Winners and the possibilities it
presents.

Where can you get Video Poker for Winners?

Dealer's Choice is owned by Casino Player and Strictly Slots,
and will, of course, carry Video Poker for Winners.
The product is available now at www.videopokerforwinners.com.
Eventually it will be available at www.shoplva.com and www.bobdancer.com
as well. For those who prefer to order by telephone rather than
computer, call 1-800-244-2224 M-F 9-5 Pacific Time.
Eventually we hope to have the product available at numerous
other outlets, but that will take some time to accomplish.
