He then proceeded to tell me that he had had monster hands on the first line of one line, three line, and five line games. "
I think the host has just been lucky. The host was probably just making conversation.
In the short term, you will have higher variance on a multi-play since much of the payoff is dependent on the dealt hand, but in the long-term you will get to the expected return quicker. The divide between the short term and long term is the gray area.
