Best # of lines to play?

I have asked this question before but I never seem to get an answer
that I can understand. I would greatly appreciate if someone with
actual knowledge of the subject could address the line issue.

I usually play $5 and $10 VP at Bellagio. Last trip, I was playing
a ten line and one of the hosts made the point of asking me if I had
ever had a "monster hand" on the first line of a ten line machine.
He then proceeded to tell me that he had had monster hands on the
first line of one line, three line, and five line games.

I understood the gist of his statements to be that he was warning me
to avoid playing ten line machines.

If you have knowledge, please explain in layman's terms.

Thanks

Not claiming to be an expert, but as an eye witness to both my games and others in the last three years....I have seen monster hands dealt on the bottom line of all multi line games. None have hit more than others....they have all been randomly dealt regardless of the number of lines played.....more lines played require more bankroll to last until the monster is dealt......my most recent experience was four deuces dealt to me on the bottom on a five play; four aces w/o kicker on DDB on a five play and then hit 3 w/kicker; four sixes dealt on Bonus on a 100 play ......then as a witness, a RF on the bottom of a 10 play at Redrock. So, I stand by most experts who will claim that random is random is random and bankroll and expert strategy and good pay tables will get you where you want to be. Good luck!

Jim Mills: Since you're already playing multi $ multi line, then in
all likelihood you don't have a bankroll problem. With that in mind
I would recommend what I play and that's 100 line poker, although you
likely want to start at a $1.00. This is what I play at Wynns. I
think New York New York may have a $2.00 machine. Its a lot of fun
trying either to get dealt 4 of a kind or 4 to a Royal. Remember
also that that the payout is nice for a dealt straight, flush or full
house. Unless you are an extreme risk taker, I would recommend Jacks
or better or Bonus poker. DDB is great fun, but even your bankroll
could be affected by a long streak without 4 of a kind.
Be ready for tons of W2G's whether you win or lose. Try to find a
machine where you can use "Key to Credit" as "purchase ticket" takes
a long time and cash would be ridiculous. If you play at Wynns,
since the two machines are not in the high limit room, I suggest
buying a number of $3K purchase tickets before you start play as that
the is max you can put into a machine at one time on the floor. Wynn
does an exellent job of taking care of you while you're playing. Of
course with an unlimited bankroll, one could always play $5. or more
50 play with "Credit key" in the high limit room. The machine will
never stop for a jackpot as there will be a person behind you at all
times recording your jackpots. You will be amazed how much money you
will put through these machines in a short time. Wynn will love you
and you'll have a ball if you have lots of money and big cojones. I
guarantee you'll never get bored playing the 100 way machine.

According to Rob Singer, the only multi-line machines you should play
are five-line machines. Below is his reason for this:

Rule #1: Five-Play machines are the only games you should play if

you want to experience consistent winning. There are mathematical and
practical reasons why the other 4 multi's cannot be beaten as often as
Five-Play, but in short, Triple-Play does not offer a good "deal"
enough chances to score big on the draw; Ten-Play of course offers
more, but the trade-off of experiencing many losing hands, required
reasonable bankroll, and game availability make it impractical; Fifty
and Hundred Play, while a novelty, are totally off the wall and offer
those without a 7-figure bankroll a quick trip to the poor house.<<
