best locals place to play, LV

I'm going to Vegas, leaving tomorrow..... tired of only playing on the
strip- can anyone recommend what they feel is the best "locals" place to play-
I was going to try Texas Station but haven't been there for over 10 years.
thanks!

Personal preference, but I like:

Red Rock - great hotel/casino, but inferior VP selection. Some 8/5 BP at lower denoms Only .1 comps

M Resort Better hotel/casino, but 8/5 BP is the best here too. .3% comps or cash

South Point. Great rooms, casino is pretty smokey, best games in LV, at least for us fleas. .3% comps or cash

Good luck!

I don't know the best places to play specifically but the area that you are going to is pretty good. The Nevada Gaming Control Board released the numbers for gaming wins by areas for the full year 2009 this February and the Boulder strip properties (Boulder Highway) had the lowest casino winning percentages. Unfortunately, the NGCB puts video poker in the same category as slots.

There is a website that takes the official numbers and makes it easier to figure out. Vegasmadeeasy.com is mostly a nightclub and dining review site (check out their steakhouse section) but they also have a gaming section. It compares how much money the big strip casinos take from you versus the locals casinos.

Also, it shows that usually the lower denominations are tighter than the higher denominations most of the time. It does not break everything out casino by casino but at least it points you in the general direction. North Vegas is a pretty good area.

Palms is the best. Second best would be Palms. Third is....Palms.
Those are your top 3 places.

We used to go to Texas Station too. Graduated to Sam's Town and like it most of the time. Boulder Station is also nearby and a few other places although you need a car. They do have shuttle bus to downtown and Riviera.

Not sure what you're looking for...best bang for the buck is probably M, or South Point if you're willing to trade a luxe LV experience for better machines. Room quality at SP is ok, M's is excellent.

Palms is recommended too.

Frankly, I can't understand why most members here would want to stay on the Strip. There's enough information here to see that what's important to most members here when visiting LV is off-Strip.

There's some good VP at many of the Stations/Fiesta properties, but I wouldn't stay at Texas or any of the Fiestas.

I haven't been to Red Rock for a few weeks. Please say it ain't so that 8/5 BP is the best stuff there- I hope they did not take out the Optimums with $.25 FPDW and full pay DB and LDW for $.25, $.50, and $1. I agree that the rooms are beautiful and the casino is worth a trip to see. Typical of many Stations properties: excellent restaurants, fairly decent blackjack rules, and crummy comps for full pay VP.

Green Valley Ranch Station, another very nice casino/hotel, has games similar to RR and is reasonably close to the M Resort and South Point.

If you stay at a Station property, be aware that they may charge a ridiculous "resort fee." They have always waived this for me, so don't be afraid to ask.

The Palms has a good VP inventory, decent comps, excellent eats (best cafe in town, and great upscale restaurants)and the most godawful taped music in the casino.

I agree that it would be helpful to be specific about long your visit will be and what you are looking for- value, which games, luxury rooms, spa, shows, etc. For example, Sam's Town on Boulder Highway and the Orleans on Tropicana were good matches for some of my friends and relatives, but too "blue hair" for others.

Could not find any NSUD as listed in VPFree2.

I'm sure they have those, but to the visitor they aren't very valuable due to the lowered point value on these machines. I was thinking like a visitor - which I am....(-;

The M has been downgrading their VP every few months.

1) Good dollar game (which I never saw) was taken out in the 1st month. Staff member said some pros hit them for $200,000-400,000. One lady hit jackpots & accumulated $35,000 of free play while doing it.

When I first visited the M around May 2009, there were 3 banks of Optimum play machines .25 (6, 6, and 8), which had Full Pay Deuces, 10/6 DDB, 10/7 DB, and Joker.

2) Around June-July 2009, the triple play superNSU (15/11) .25 Deuces were downgraded to 15/9.

3) Two of the optimum play banks were removed leaving 6 machines by the west entrance. On the same day, they downgraded the .05 Deuces on all machines except the funky ones (e.g. multi-strike). Last time I played at the M, Multi-strike Deuces still had better pays for redeeming free play offers.

I haven't played at the M resort recently, but about 2-4 months ago, someone told me that all the optimum play machines were gone.

I've never seen any NSUD. Perhaps they put them in when removing the last bank of optimum play?

Mitchell

P.S. I was at Red Rock last week, and they still had the optimum play machines. Didn't check them to see which games were there. Used to be FPDW .25, but Full-Pay Loose Deuces at .25, .50, and 1.00.

I used to love both the M and the Red Rock and as an out of towner got very well cared for by both properties with generous food credits and free play. My level of play never changed but Red Rock suddenly eliminated the free play citing a new policy by Station. I was offered double the amount of food credit in lieu of free play but one can only eat and drink so much when staying by oneself and so I didn't bother returning. Same thing with M. Free rooms, some free wine and some piddly amount of free play but nothing else after previously courting me with much better offerings. I now get very generous free play, food credits and suites at several other very popular properties (non-chain properties) for the same level of play I gave M and RR. I still get calls from hosts from M and RR "inviting" me to stay and I always tell them if they match the offers I am getting I would happily reconsider. They say they can't and sound sadly frustrated in doing so.

We are not locals but we LOVE SouthPoint, M Resort, Eastside Cannery, Red Rock (in that order). We hate strip casinos and only go there when we bring people that never been to vegas before or have free rooms there. Enjoy!
