Story from employees is that they (employees) returned at 9 AM & Bellagio
reopened at 5 PM. A quick walkthrough didn't reveal any obvious mistakes to keep
me up all night.
POWER OUTAGE
Aren't backup sources of electricity battery-powered or, in the case of
generators, usually fuel-driven? In any event, the stories that we've heard seem to
have a certain spin to them as if they had no recourse but to shut down
temporarily & relocate all the guests until they could figure out what the problem
was.
For those who love conspiracy theories & know where they've hidden the WMDs,
here's a story line that's very plausible:
21 Monets are on loan from the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston to the Gallery
of Fine Arts at Bellagio. The Gallery requires temperature and security systems
to be fully operational else who knows what clauses might kick in & what
future art exhibits might be diverted elsewhere if the unthinkable were to happen.
This probably requires a large % of the backups to be diverted to this task,
leaving little reserve capacity for hotel & casino operations. Due to the
enormous current & future liability, the call was made to keep "Water Lilies" dry
& relocate guests in suitably appropriate digs at other MGM-Mirage properties.
Some were even put up at the Venetian. Guess there weren't enough high-roller
suites within the family.
This is just a theory. Remember that movie with Mel Gibson in it or was it
Mel Brooks....
Here's another possibility: Much of Oceans 11 was filmed at Bellagio & the
cast & crew stayed there. If you see Julia Roberts coming down the stairs, look
for George Clooney & you'll probably find a set of blueprints for the water
cannons nearby.
