Bed bugs

As an owner of a pest control company here in New England, I felt I really should add my 2 cents.

First, bed buds are making a resurgence. We are not entirely sure why. A few theories out there are international travel, and resistance to pesticides. Hotels (five star, all the way to run down motels), dorms, hospitals, Cruise ships, buses, are all places where they have been found.

Next, a large part of most pest management programs is education. I would hope that Mohegan has had the pest control company take time to educate the hotel staff. It is important for them to do inspections each time they change bedding (there are new bed bug proof encasement that we are encouraging all of our bed bug accounts to buy, and hotels are already following suit. Ha, snuck in a cards reference!). They hide in seams of the mattress, head boards, night stands, picture frames, electrical receptacles, etc.

Finally, it is important that when you find something that you notify the hotel. They can get there company in there swiftly to correct and help prevent future infestation. The problem is that they are EXTREMELY hard to control. They are incredibly resilient to all of our top products, but with proper treatment and follow up inspections, it can be resolved.

I was in Texas at our national industry conference and bed bugs are the hot topic. Mohegan is far from being the only one with the problem. The room is fine one night, and the next customer could bring them in to the room.

Explore the web so you can see what they look like. They are easy to see, if you can find them!

Leave luggage near the door and do an inspection when arriving at any hotel. Don't fear staying at mohegan. It can happen anywhere. Much like gambling, it's the law of averages.

  Hope this helps, Bill

PS - Put a good word in for me with Mohegan. We would love that pest control contract!
