Barbary Coast (you've gotta ask)

I've been visiting Vegas (and Reno & Atlantic City etc etc) for years
now, getting decent deals from quarter video poker play. I'll go to a
casino, sign up for the club, play a few hours, & then take advantage
of mailed offers.

This has been enough to get me lots of free or cheap rooms in
downtown Vegas or off-strip, along with some free meals, so I've been
happy, & have never tried to be more "aggressive" in my searches.

But in July, I'm doing a long weekend in Vegas with a couple friends,
& one of them *really* wanted to stay on the Strip. So my deals
downtown etc wouldn't cut it. In the past year or two, I've played a
few hours of quarter pick'em and 9/6 Jacks-or-Better at Bally's (as
well as the corporately connected Ceasars & Flamingo), & they'd all
mailed me passable deals, but when I called, they all reported being
sold out for that weekend, or at least sold out of the deal code
they'd mailed me.

I've played at Barbary Coast, a few hours here & there, for years.
I've been waiting for them to mail me some sort of offer, but nothing
has ever appeared. The best a net search revealed was a BC room for
the weekend (Fri/Sat/Sun nights) approaching $400 total.

So I called their reservations number & asked if I might qualify for
a discount, & they connected me to the Fun Club, they brought up my
account, & offered me the room for $175 total for the three nights.

I post this because I was initially hesitant to ask, because I'm just
a quarter player, don't play marathon sessions, & believe I play
correctly, so I guess I was concerned that if I spoke up they'd
analyse my play & roar back, "Not only won't you get a room from us,
you're now banned from the casino for life." But it worked out better
than that, so if other list members have refrained from asking for
deals, they may be missing something.

And of course, if anyone has info to offer me about getting further
comps from Barbary Coast when we visit there in late July ("Top 40"
suggests that $4-5K play/day might get a free room?), I'll always
appreciate it.

I've never gotten offers from them in the mail either (does anyone?) but have had similar success in getting decent rates from their Fun Club.

I also prefer downtown now, but am planning on looking there for a group trip in August. They all want to stay on the strip, so I'll take my little piece of downtown on the strip and stay at BC.

You have to achieve a certain amount of lifetime coin-in to begin
receiving mailers from BC. I am not sure what that criteria is, but I
finally reached it on my recent trip this past February.

I received their Summer tournament offer last week.

I played at Barbary Coast for the first time in December. I am
guessing I played for 16 hours spread out over 4 days. Since then,
I have received 2 invitations to slot tournaments and 1 2-night stay
coupon that included breakfast for two, dinner for two, and $25 in
coin. I don't think I played any more than the next guy, but the
offers I have received have been awesome. Actually, I will be there
in July.

I just thought I would let you all know.
