I think the pass line at craps would be a good bet.

I am sure this has been covered before, but I had a discussion with a
friend about such gaming chips and said 'If they take the chip whether
you win or lose, then the value of the chips are 1/2 of the face
value' expecting that you will win 1/2 the time and lose the other
1/2. He didnt agree/understand, so just to check, Is my method
correct? If so then the shopping would most likely be the better
choice over the chips.

I believe that matchplay coupons are worth half the value of the
coupons since you have to put up that amount of your own money to use
it. For example a $10 matchplay will result in a $10 loss about half
the time and a $20 win about half the time - value = +$5. It sounds
like these gaming chips don't require a matching bet, so they should
be worth their value (less the casino edge on whatever the bet is
obviously).
