Some Thanksgiving ... good video poker games have been killed off as fast as turkeys this week:
RIVER PALMS: Shorted all of the BP from 8/5 to 7/5 at both bars upstairs (downstairs machines were already short pay). With the Krazy 8's bonus, this means the 100.0% games are now 98.9%. (Four slant tops have survived in $1 for the time being ... who knows for how long). Other than these 4 machines, there are no 100% or 100+% at River Palms.
TROPICANA EXPRESS: SAME STORY as above (one employee said the new manager of the two properties doesn't think they need full pay machines to bring in people). First, the Sevens promo at the center bar and the machines around it has been dropped. The machines do remain as full 8/5 BP (99.17%)game. Other machines in the area do still have the sevens promo -- but they are all short pay BP. All of the machines halfway between the center bar and the cashier area are short pay 7/5 BP with the sevens promo. The machines in the non-smoking area survived the purge for a few extra days -- but no longer! All of the uprights along the wall in non-smoking that had .25 and .50 8/5 BP with the sevens promo are now shorted. (The .25 and .50 BP on the slant tops in the non-smoking area were already shorted to 7/5 over the summer). Like River Palms, there are still 4 machines that have $1 8/5 with a sevens promo ... but, again, don't know if that is by plan or by error. (One floor person said they were overlooked accidentally and doesn't expect them to last when management does a cross-check next week).
PIONEER: Eleven more of the full pay machines (DW, jokers, 10/6 DDB, 10/7 DB, etc) have bit the dust and now have only short pay VP or keno. Only seven full pay machines now remain.
Going back to the River Palms and Tropicana Express, only time will tell the impact of the purge of good machines. The problem is there are many players out there who have no idea what a pay table on a video poker machine is telling them about the return. I bet if I went up to a person playing $1 BP and told them they had to pay me $40 per hour for playing they would punch me ... but that is the difference between an 8/5 and a 7/5 BP game at a typical eight full houses per hour!
Getting of the soap box and back to turkey day ..
