Bad River Casino (Ashland, WI)

Sorry that I can't help you with the casino info - but I gotta ask:
What the heck is a Sheepshead Tournament???

This casino is not listed in the database - wondering if it is due to
there being nothing playable to report (most likely or reason) or if
no one has ever submitted a report. Headed there next month for a
Sheepshead Tournament and wondering if there might be anything worth
playing. Any info would be appreciated. I'll post a report when I
return on my findings.

In light of recent comments regarding off-topic subjects, I
requested permission in advance from our fearless leader to respond
to Brian's question; he/she kindly granted me permission. Having
been out playing Sheepshead all day, I am just getting to answer now
(and noticed Mark and baggitt have jumped in there too).

Baggitt's link gives you an origin of the game. It is a great card
game played with 32 cards of a standard deck (2's - 6's are removed
from the deck). Most commonly it is played with 5 people, but 3-
handed and 4-handed are also played. It took me months to learn the
basics of the game, but many, many years to learn real strategy.
This is definitely a regional game; I have found most people who
play, live in Wisconsin - or did at some point in their life. In my
circle of friends, it is not unusual for someone to play upwards of
20 or more hours a month (at homes, bars, parties, in leagues, and
in tournaments). The game is most commonly played "live," but is
available on Yahoo games. Generally you will find 30 - 200 people
playing online worldwide at any given time of day. This very low
number gives ou an idea how few play the game. A cocktail waitress
at Jerry's Nugget learned how to play by watching it on Yahoo. She
became friends with many Milwaukeeans that way - and wanted so much
to meet us and play "live" that she now comes to Milwaukee once a
year to participate in our tournaments and visit those she has
become friends with. She took 1st place on her first visit here! So
this does include cards, gambling, and Vegas : )

Should anyone want to know more, please contact me privately. I
have added a link to the websites we use to get the scoop on
Sheepshead happenings (very much like vpFree for Sheepshead addicts).
