Well, I'm not sure I have enough sophistication to evaluate exactly how rake
effects ER in poker, but it doesn't take a brainiac to understand that $10
out of every pot in a little 5/10 game is NG. At the time I wasn't too
worried about ER. I just felt like playing. The cruise was not exactly a
money making proposition. After paying NCL's fare for two, airfare, hotels,
drinks and food there was no chance of positive expectation.
OTOH, I have been noticing that poker rooms have been getting a little
greedy lately. A couple of the midwest games do time charge for their NL
games. No problem in theory, but big problem in actual practice. It's hard
to justify $14 per hour with a $200 max buy in.

This was a thread that I skipped over but horror of horrors I just
caught a glimpse of it. A 5/10 Holdem game with a 10$ rake up to
$10.
EVACUATE THIS GAME. REPEAT. EVACUATE. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.
The game is a stone cold ripoff!!! I don't care how loose passive
the players are no one, repeat, no one is going to beat this game(in
the long run) but the house. The game has to be loose passive
because any player with enough sophistication to evaluate rake is not
going to be in this game, therefore it's all bad players. But make
no mistake a good player is not going to play in this game because
he/she knows the rake CANNOT be overcome.
