Back from Graz, Austria

Well, I am back. I did visit the Casino in the downtown area on
Saturday. They want to see your passport and "register" you before
they even let you in. I did confirm the consensus on Graz casino
gambling, i.e., "DON"T EVEN BOTHER!".

I must admit that I am usually easily "tempted" to throw in a coin
or two when I am visiting a new casino. There are even times when I
leave the Casinos in Monte Carlo with more money that I walked in
with. But with the pay tables that I saw in Graz, I walked away
without feeling a single twinge of remorse for not having played at
least a little bit.

Oh, yes! If you think that American cigarette smoke is bad, try
visiting a European casino....YUCH!

Last year I poked my head inside casinos at Salzburg and Innsbruck.
I concur with your diagnosis: the VP AND the casinos both stink in
Austria. Nothing like a little 3/2 Bonus Poker, a $5 admission
charge, and smoke clouds that remind you of Gary, Indiana during a
temperature inversion to make you long for Vegas.

Of course, Austria was a fantastic place to visit, and I'd highly
recommend this beautiful and friendly country to anyone. Drove the
GrossGlockner HochAlpenStrasse for an experience I'll never forget,
also the lake country south of Salzburg is heaven on earth. I'll be
back (but not to gamble!).

Yes! You can't argue with the natural beauty of the surroundings in
Austria.

But, I kept listening for the "hills to be alive with the sound of
music". Heard nothing!

And, not a single Julie Andrews sighting!

In spite of this <smile>, I would recommend it to anyone. I go back
to Wien in the spring and am really looking forward to it.

If you haven't visited Berchesgarten

(Hilter's mountain hideaway) which we detoured to see on the way to
Salzburg, it is well worth the trip. Both for the natural grandeur
of the landscape (LOTS of mountain driving) and the historical
significance of the museum, we found it extremely interesting (even
though it brought back that awful dark period of history).
