back 2 back - less AH

While visiting in Vegas this week, I was watching a friend play 100
hand 25C DDB. He was dealt KQJ10 of Ds and hit drew only one royal.
Still complaining he played the adjacent machine since the first was
frozen pending a W-2G, on the next hand he was dealt 4 fours and drew
25 with kickers.

I met him the following afternoon and was given a lesson in the finer
points in penalty cards in DB. Suffice it to say I was dreading being
dealt and A with an other honor, penalty cards and a 10. When he
tired of DB he went back to the 100x DDB. He was dealt Ac, Ad, AS,
2C, 2h. After compaining that the 2h was the next number on the
random generator to the Ah, he drew to the 3As and hit 5 quads one
with a kicker. Since the machine froze, he played the adjacent
machine and on the first hand drew Kh, Jh 10h, Qh, ....9h for 100
SFs. Quite a back to back haul, but if the Ah were dealt as the last
card on both deals the payoff would have been 150T. Not bad for
quarters.

Why did a Royal generate a W-2G? On a quarter machine, that would only be $1000.
Perhaps it was a progressive? Perhaps a minor story-glitch?

Mark,

The total payoff on all 100 hands was over $1,200; evidently the
play of all 100 hands is considered a single bet, so a W-2G was
issued. I don't know whether this is technically corect or not.

Incidently in this months issue of Strictly Slots (August 04) in
response to a reader question regarding payouts (with no indication
of it being a multiple play machine) they responded:

"If you cash out with $1,200 or more, the machine will lock up for a
hand-pay and you will receive a W2G form, regardless of how many
jackpots it took you to reach that $1,200. No, a single win of
$1,200 is not required. ... It is a federal regulation."

I believe this response is questionable and is contrary to prior
discussion on this board, at least with respect to non-multiple play
machines.

Well, for one thing, part of what you are 'cashing out' includes money that you have put in there yourself, if I'm understanding you correctly. So what figure do they put on the W-2G?

Cheers.

It's correct ... even when play proceeds in stages, such as
MultiStrike. All inidividual pays during a play are added to
determine the payoff on the bet.

Does the SS author of that comment ever play at denominations where
they have incurred a $1200+ cashout? I believe some TITO's will
actually ticket your cashout without attendent intervention, assuming
that you didn't have a single win of $1200+.

There have been a handful of anecdotes of manual cashouts of $1200+
where the casino insisted on a W2G, but the feedback has always been
that this is in error.

It is absolutely correct that the total of all hands on a multi-play count
toward the W2-G. I once drew two royals on a 5-play for a total of $2000
and got a W2-G.

The letter answer in both SS and CP is absolutely wrong. According to them
if you insert $1200 in a machine and then press the cash out button you
would get a W2-G, even though you did not gamble. The best part of these
two magazines is to find how many wrong facts they give each issue. My
favorite part is to find two different, mutually exclusive explanations of
something in different parts of the same issue.

Don't forget in 100 hands being dealt with 4 to the royal, all the
straight, flushes, straight flushes, and pairs, coupled with the
royal, probably added up to over $1200. He failed to mention all the
others which I'm sure there were a few.

Here is what I emailed to Casino Player a few weeks ago.

We subscribe to CP for many years, but never seen a mistake of this
magnitude:
In the answer to Slot taxes question about W2G form on Cashouts over
$1200, CP answers the following "If you cash out with 1200 or more,
the machine will lock up for hand-pay and you will receive W2G form,
regardless of how many jackpots it took you to reach that 1200"

It is purely wrong!!! We cashout more than $1,200.00 all the time.
The machine based on the casino preference may not issue a ticket
over a specific amount for security purposes and anti money
laundering measures but no W2G will be issued. W2G issued on slot
Jackpots over 1199.00 on single wager regardless of denomination and
number of coins wagered. The answer like that is as bad as selecting
Harrah's best in Cash Back, Video Poker and Comps in most
jurisdictions (for that the magazine should be called Harrah's
Player), but votes are votes despite the fact that Harrah's mails
ballots to their patrons database (which happens to be biggest).
Please try not to misinform thousands of readers next time.

Good letter. But the way I feel, is let them say Harrahs has the best VP, comp's and other stuff. That will leave the better machine's and deal's for the rest of us.
