Australia

Hi all

I'm going to Australia next month and plan on visiting a few casinos
and I was wondering if anyone knows how the VP machines are there.
I plan on staying @ Star City casino in Sydney for 5 night
any help would be great
Thank You
Mark

I go to Australia about once a year and haven't seen ANY VP at all in years. Last trip to Star City was 3 years ago but they had no VP at all, only Slots (Pokies).

VP may very well be banned in Austrailia or on the verge.

This may be comparable to what happened in South Carolina. As I remember South Carolna VP was almost completely unregulated. A lot of the machines were made in Neveada but many were off-shore without the randomness of a deck of cards. I would not be surprised if the Nevada machines were "hacked" as well.

Gambling became a problem for a lot of people in South Carolina. Probably happened in Australia as the "VP" machines were (are?) in many small businesses.

That's a shame. Anybody remember Mike Emmerik's "Video Poker from Australia" site way back when?

I was in Melbourne and Sydney in 2002. I saw a few VP games but the paytables were absolutely horrible. 85-95% if I recall. TomSki

That article seems to be confusing VP with slots; here slot machines are called "poker machines". Usually "Video Poker" is reserved for what we know of as VP: accurate deck simulation, no fiddling of draw possibilities. But this writer figures that poker machines with video screens should be called Video Poker. Grrr.

Non casino gambling in Australia is overwhelmingly slot machines. We have some of the highest concentrations of slot machines in the world; the state of New South Wales may have the highest number of machines per capita in the world. It's an issue that the state governments are addicted to the taxes from gambling, and regularly politicians attempt to do something about it, and of course the reality of the tax income ensures that nothing useful ever does happen.

This may be comparable to what happened in South Carolina. As I remember South Carolina VP was almost completely unregulated. I very much doubt that Nevada or other machines get "hacked" here. Certainly not in any Australian casino; they are very tightly regulated. Of course, it's impossible to be totally sure, but I'd be 99.9% sure.

Oh wait, that's me. I'm glad to see that some one at least remembers it!

I don't normally follow this group, but this morning I received an email about an image update and decided to search the forums for the keyword "Australia". As expected, it's still a VP wasteland. I sometimes miss the old days (but not the smoke).
