Atlantis Trip
Atlantis historically was my favorite Reno joint.
Like the Peppermill, it's "off Strip" location made it very competitive in
VP offerings and room quality.
Well, as you know, the good VP is pretty much gone as in most of Nevada.
The Concierge tower is the newest, nicest tower.
Suites are very nice and clean.
The glass elevator ride up at night is a highlight.
Biggest drawback is the poor food service choices.
As a seafood lover I was happy to see the two bars that opened in the
skybridge.
Nice to have anywhere in a casino with sunlight; glass skylight is unique.
Unfortunately, they should have concentrated more on the food quality.
The oyster bar is mediocre (heavy cream, overcooked crab).
The "all you can eat" sushi bar is bloody awful, possibly the worst I've
ever experienced.
Haven't been to the Steakhouse in over a decade.
Frankly, I like the buffet best -- some very good stuff at times (authentic
Mexican) and elite cardholders get big discounts plus one free meal a week.
That's important, because at Atlantis there are no food comps.
Or should I say, Harrah's-style food comps. All comps come out of your
points, unless you can zero them out. This most-annoying trend is sweeping
the gambling world, apparently because indy casinos across the nation want
to imitate Harrah's lack of success.
Technically, there's now cashback. But only technically.
Earn your points, them redeem them on a specific day, maybe only one or two
a month.
Limit is $250, which makes the whole thing little more than a cruel hoax.
And an insult to big players.
But you won't even be able to get that, because for technical reasons it's
not worth doing.
The player's club has one of those silly tiered systems, with even sillier
names like Royal Dutch Black Diamod.
Other than special parking and a free buffet it won't really get you
anything you actually care about.
But it does impress girls (I've heard).
Be aware there is a cheese factor. Waterfalls, bright colored lights and
fish, that sort of thing.
I like tropical, so it doesn't bother me. And "cheese" beats "ick" any day
(the latter found in heaps at the pepper grinder down the street).
So if you like nice easy-to-get suites and like a pretty good buffet and
ordinary video poker, Atlantis is still one of the best places in Reno to
stay -- if that's your thing.

Subj: Atlantis TripHi Gang:
Hedy and I booked a trip to Reno today that was a special offer from the
Atlantis Hotel/Casino for Seven Stars guests at Harrah's. We've never been
to Reno and were wondering if anyone on these boards could give us feedbackabout the Atlantis. We printed out the VP info from the VPfree2 database so
we know about the games the casino offers but we were curious about the
rooms, restaurants, non-smoking availability in the casino etc. The offer
is
for three nights in a suite in the Concierge Tower.
Any info will be much appreciated.

I received an offer for flight and room at either Tahoe or Reno at Haarrah's. My question is what's the connection with Harrah's and Atlantis?

No connection. Atlantis is going after Harrah's 7 stars level players.

But how did Atlantis know Coach was 7 stars? Maybe he volunteered the information or maybe a host moved from Harrah's to Atlantis with their little black book. I doubt Harrah's just gave Atlantis a list of their biggest gamblers. Even if Atlantis said pretty please

Ordinary video poker? With multiple base games and denominations at over 100% combined with progressives I hardly think the Atlantis is ordinary. What casino is above Atlantis "ordinary" in this day, and better? I find it hard to believe that Harrah's would send you there, as after you see the vp offerings you will never want to go back to Harrah's. I am also a big fan of the Peppermill which is only a short walk away with great video poker. Check some of the postings of vpFREE Reno for more information on Atlantis.

This is not a personalized offer that was mailed. It is available to all Harrahs Seven Stars players.
It is similar to the upgrade offer that many casinos have where they will match a premium level card from another property.

I learned from my host at the Atlantis what Director of Player Development means. These are the people who are bringing players over to their casinos from other ones. My host and at least one other host at the Atlantis used to be hosts at Harrahs.
I was amazed at how many Directors of Player Development pictures are shown under the VIP link on the Peppermill website. Some of them used to be Harrahs hosts, too.
I'm in an amazing suite at Harvey's as I type this. I am playing at a Millionaire Maker tournament tomorrow morning and then heading to the Atlantis to play in another comped slot tournament tomorrow evening.
Atlantis Food - I really like the Manhattan Deli and Cafe Alfresco. The suites in the Concierge Tower are great. They do charge for drinks at the Concierge Lounge, though, unlike the Diamond lounges at Harrahs.
I like having nonsmoking areas to play in. The small area across from Java Coast and the skywalk where the oyster bar is. I tried the Cioppino and loved it.
Peppermill - I was a regular there for years until a few months ago. I am a Platinum player very close in points to Diamond? Whatever the next level is. I had problems with my host because he was really slow about getting back to me about credit card charges on things that should have been comped. In the past he would eventually check into my charges and would reverse them off of my card. I asked him several times about charges for last Sept and Oct and when he would see me he would ask if they had been taken care of and looked surprised when I told him no.
I called VIP services several times about my cc charges which were meals from the Deli, Biscotti's, room service and Espresso Bar. They would just tell me that they would refer them to my host and nothing would happen. I finally called the Accounting dept and they said that the charges should have been comped and they would call the Director of Mktg and have them reversed and call me back. She didn't call me back and I waited for almost an hour and called her back and she said that the Mktg Director looked at my play and said I didn't have enough comps to cover the charges.
These charges were from Sept, Oct. I started to win big on vp in Nov and Dec and ended the year at the Peppermill a little over $4000 ahead on my win/loss statement. I emailed my host about it and didn't receive a response.
Now no offers and I used to receive offers for everything and was comped a Veranda Suite in the Tuscan Tower on every trip which was at least once a month. The only offers I receive are to Valued Guest in an email for a reduced room rate.
The Peppermill was my favorite place to play. I loved the different playing environments and great music instead of the canned casino music everyone else has.
The Atlantis is my Peppermill replacement. I do like it and the people who work there are great but really miss the vibe of the Peppermill. I found the Peppermill to be more relaxing. Just don't feel welcome anymore.
I do have a Tuscan Coupon Book from the Players Club and may go down to the Oceano during my Atlantis stay next week for some sushi. Not sure if I will play, though, or if I do it will be to get a good glass of Rombauer Chardonnay.

I absolutely agree! The Reno Atlantis has one the best VP inventories in NV, especially
for a mid-range player. Combined with their many offers of FP, X points days, tournaments,
drawings, nice accommodations and excellent restaurants, I consider the Atantis the best
place to stay/play in Northern NV.
To me, The Atlantis is very similiar to the South Point in LV. It's a VP factory for serious
players, heavily dependent on local traffic, but generous to non-locals as well.

I agree with all your comments about the Atlantis and the Pepp. You've hit on the main reason that I left the Pepp, after ten great years of making my "home" there.
I was also not as enamoured of their VP inventory as I had been in previous years.
One small correction; the rooms in the Concierge Tower at Atlantis are recently renovated and very nice, but, to my knowledge, there are NO suites in the CT. The Atlantis suites are located in the other towers. I have stayed in one of the suites on occasion, and found them to be quite dated. Though all the rooms in the CT were re-done last year, I don't know if that is true of the suites.
Also the Atlantis Steak/Seafood Restaurant, though a bit pricey, is VERY good.
And the N/S Oyster bar has delicious seafood.
One really cannot go wrong staying at the Reno Atlantis!

Just curious if in past years your win/loss statement showed a loss. My experience with the Pepp is that they don't pay much attention to theo. If you win they don't want you.

Ditto for Atlantis. They will cut off your mail (no freeplay, no tournament
invites, etc) if they think "we won't be able to make enough money off
you."
