Atlantis tier Q

Slow month here so I figured an idle question re Atlantis wouldn’t hurt …

Earlier this year I posted that I gave Atlantis a visit after 2 years of inactivity. My play (approx $43k coin-in, 60/40 split prog/non-prog) earned $76 in comps, was granted 2 nights room comp upon review, and earned 1421 tier points. (FWIW, I suffered adverse luck w/ a $2600 loss)

Still don’t receive anything other than a casino rate calendar (no surprise). However, when I happened to glance at my account online, was surprised I’m shown as Platinum Premier … 2nd highest tier, requiring 30k tier points.

Now, granted, that and $3 will get you a cup of joe in the coffee shop. But at least it does “supposedly” grant vip/host access, and the added convenience of priority service.

So, anyone know if such tier escalation is typical of Atlantis, while at the same time waving off the player with the other hand?

I haven’t been given the Heisman yet, despite multiple winning weekends. Probably because I’ve gotten lucky and have lots of $800-1100 wins and no W-2Gs. But last June (their annual cutoff) I was lining up to be several thousand tier shy of Platinum, and was randomly upgraded to it.

Atlantis cares a lot about where you receive your mail. So much so that it’s worth getting a box far away and using that to receive offers. If they think you’re within a four-hour drive, the offers are substantially weaker than if you are 500+ miles away.

Something similar happened to me - marketing will up you to the platinum level, and you get the perks related to that - the vip room is nice but seems like there are an awful lot of vips who get access to that room. Once in a great while they’ll ask you to show your card when you order a drink in the room, but not usually. You can also sit at a desk there and get checked in rather than stand in line at the front desk. Status is only good thru the end of May, I believe, unless you crank thru the required 30K tier points. I play vp at the 50¢ and $1 level and it’s next to impossible for me to ever hit 30K because I’m not a local - a half dozen trips a year just doesn’t cut it for me. However, I’ve managed to hang onto platinum due to the good graces of my host, but I fear this will be my last year because his bosses are being less lenient about granting that status.

For what it is worth, here is my most recent experience. About five years ago I began playing at the Atlantis and DURING THE TRIP (I live 2,000 miles away), I was upgraded IMMEDIATELY as soon as I reached the next level. I mean, a suit came over to me and gave me a new players card! Over those five years, we visited and played at the Atlantis more than a dozen times and enjoyed all of the perks a Platinum player would normally receive. Unfortunately, almost every trip was a losing trip. My wife and I are recreational dollar players. Then, early last year, we were fortunate enough to hit two royals within 24 hours. Without any warning or notice, the next time we requested a room from our host, he wouldn't even take the call and we were informed that we would no longer be comped for anything. Essentially, they said, you only play the "good" video poker. You can still play, but no more comps or preferential treatment. Lifetime, we are still several thousand behind at the Atlantis, but they did not care. 86'd period. So, when you do win, you can pretty much expect to be rebuked. It is not a case of IF it will happen; it is a case of WHEN it will happen. Too bad, we liked the Atlantis and brought friends (who had no idea of how to play). Now we go to other casinos in Reno.

I’ve read about several stories similar to this, where players are cut off from comps because they only play “good” Video Poker. I’d be curious to know what sort of games meet their bar for being “good”. Would you be willing to share which games you spent most of your time playing?

Over the past few years, I have played "full pay" games. Probably the most common "best" game is 10-7 DB. It is at several of the bar progressives. Even though it is over 100%, I mostly play 16-10 deuces at the progressives as well as dollar triple plays. Although it has a lower winning percentage, 9-6 JOB is also available. In fact, they have several games that have "100% payback" signs attached to them. They claim to have the best video poker in Northern Nevada and yet, if you play them (and of course, win, you become persona non grata.

I wouldn’t overly stress the “good” games part too much … the key criteria for adverse action is simply walking away with a chunk of change from a visit or two (regardless of past lost history).

In other words, if you don’t consistently lose, you’re too good for their taste. That reportedly includes a keno player who enjoyed a lucky streak, against the odds.

That said, they’re most attuned to players who hit their attractive progressives hard and win.

And “bar” suggests more severe measures than is the case. You’re still invited on a casino rate, and still have card privileges (just no promo FSP/events). They may even comp the casino rate, after review of your play. In my experience, record a significant play loss and you’re good.

Been going for two years and nearly all of my play has been at 25c Spin NSUD on days with 3x or 4x multipliers. I’ve had one trip up $5k without a W-2G, and multiple trips up $1k-$2k without them, along with the obvious number of trips down $1k-$2k.

I still get standard offers of three nights and $100-200 FP.

I fully expect that some trip I’ll get dealt deuces for $2250 and hit a 2 or 3 line Royal, and my offers will suddenly go away. But until that day comes, it’s our preferred casino in Reno.

There’s still a decent play there…that a fellow board member clued me in to many years ago. (Mike from Arkansas, if you’re still around, thanks!)

I haven’t been in a long while, but I’m considering going back when the rollover happens (june?), but the wife hates Reno, lol.

Speaking of being barred…have you been barred from JAN, Harry?

Is anyone “barred” from Atlantis? I’m just reduced to a casino-rate room offer calendar (no promo FSP) after hitting a couple of $1 prog rf’s. As I’ve discussed, they’re still willing to review play, after the fact, for room comp eligibility.

I’m still here, Richard…(Mike in Arkansas)

Haven’t been to Reno since Atlantis removed my main play there, except for the “100% rounder”. After a couple of years of playing (3 or 4 times a year), we were told we were too good and would not receive any mailers. But…our host would still give us comped rooms based on our play…So we were happy to play along for another year and a half or so, until my game disappeared. At that point we used up all of our comps, and left town…

I do miss it, though…

Mike

Good to see you around still Mike!

I’m using my wife’s account, my username is CorvetteRacing (Timspeed)

I honestly haven’t stepped inside Atlantis in over a year…but did they get rid of those machines in the Skybridge??
