There has been a steady downgrading of VP at the Atlantis over the
last year or so; except for the two banks of 25c DB progressives,
and the 25c DB bank at the other side of the Sky Terrace Bar(all
these are very old and slow machines), most of the DB games are now
9/7 (however, vpFREE Administrator reported that a bank of 25c 9/7
DB GameMakers next to the Atrium Bar were upgraded to 10/7/80
(100.52%) about two weeks ago).
All the multi-play games no longer have 10/7 DB or NSUD, however,
single line 25c NSUD progressives are still plentiful. COD is Sunday
through Thursday, $5 for 5c, $10 for 25c, and $20 for $1, and they
will pay you $500 if you hit the COD on a 100-play 5c machine (if
that happens while you are playing a bonus quad game, remind the
slot supervisor after you signed the $1,250 w2-g, that way you won't
be signing a $1,750 w2-g instead). Some 25c machines take 10 or 20
coins, and you won't get the COD pay if you play 5 coins on those.
Spin Poker pay has been downgraded also.
The 1c/2c/5c/ 50-play and 100-play machines are still there, and I
think the best game there are Super Double Bonus @99.69%, but it is
a lot more volatile than 9/6 JoB. My game of choice there is 2c SDB
playing 74 hands (therefore dealt quad Aces nets you $1,184).
There are two amazing $1 GameMakers on the left side of the Atrium
Bar that have AA, 10/7/80 DB, and Pick'em. Two more $1 10/7/80 DB
GameMakers are on the right of the stage.
Slot club is "don't ask, won't tell" (but a bottle of wine to your
host/VIP rep. may change that; better yet, leave a $1 phone charge
on your room account, check out at VIP, ask about your trip handle,
so the desk monitor is displaying your rep-sheet, and then insist on
paying your $1 phone charge with a $20 bill --- VIP carries no
change, and you will have 10 minutes to study your account on the
desk monitor while the VIP rep. walks all the way to the hotel front
desk to get you your $19 in change). Your comp balance is listed
in "points", each point is 1 cent.
The Atlantis is the first (and only) property in Reno that charges
over $100 per night for conventioneers, the new Convention Center is
right next to it, and rooms can be hard to come by at times. This
may also account for the downgrading in their games. On the other
hand, Reno is in the middle on a life-and-death struggle because of
the boom in Indian Casinos in California. September 2003 Gaming
Controls figures: Washoe County, down 7.9%, worst in 10 years; Reno,
down 7.0%, worst in 12 years; this is the 10th decrease in casino
win over the past 12 months. The winter months are going to be even
worse.
Comp rate varies, but even for 100-play (@ $5 per play) the rate is
at least 1%. $4k "handle" a day should get you a room comp, at $6k
per day, you should ask for a room at the Concierge Tower. Movies
and phone charges are usually not comped. Comps do not expire.
If you have time, check out those 6 truly amazing MultiStike Poker
machines at the Peppermill, 5c/10c/25c/ and full pay on everything
including Deuces, KBJW, and DB. I had a $2,000 loss in 1.5 hours of
25c Deuces there (Jean Scott Posted a $12,000 loss playing $1 MS JoB
in Las Vegas over about 25 hours); the variance of this type of game
is unknown and I think some members of this board, including yours
truly, are procrastinating in figuring it out, waiting for a cold,
rainy, Sunday afternoon with a slight hangover best suited for the
performance of lower-level arithmetical skills.
Disclaimers:
1) I advocate that all gaming wins should be reported as
income, and one should keep a log for such purpose. The techniques
listed above in reducing w2-g pays and avoiding "nuisance" $1,200 w2-
gs are intended solely to speed up the rate of play and pay rather
than to avoid taxes. Furthermore, (Card Pulling + Requesting and
using a casino win/loss statement for filing tax returns) = criminal
act; and the "eye in the sky" + tracking computer can together prove
the existence of such a crime. (This may no longer be a relevant
point: the Peppermill card reader now displays "tracking session in
progress" when one's card is removed and will presumably track one
more hand of the game after the card's removal.)
2) (Conflict of Interests/ Self Incrimination) I understand
that the Atlantis may take counter-measures against me or my
techniques (to set my mind at ease, if any members here play 74-play
2c SDB at the Atlantis, it's time to be counted). I am bounded by
the "full disclosure" clause of the vpFREE Member Policy and I have
no formal or informal agreement with the Atlantis about not
revealing advantage plays or techniques there. I can only serve one
master at a time.
