Atlantis new games

I'm just back from Atlantis. Highlight was playing NSUD on machines
near the tide pools that let you play up to 10 at the quarter level,
holding KdTd (I don't know the penalty card rules, so maybe this
wasn't even correct, but I always keep K-high RF2 in the absence of
anything better) & filling up the Royal for $2000. All my previous
Royals had been $1000, or slightly higher at the Silver Legacy FPDW
progressives.

A bunch of great new games to report. Not far from the coffee counter
are 3 5-play multi-strikes for nickels. They can also be played at
pennies or 2-cents, but with worse pay tables. I played NSUD, which I
think was the best choice available. Lots of fun. $100 seemed to last
for quite a while. Hit quad deuces on the 3rd level.

Also: super-times-pay near the poker room, at up to quarter level.
Seemed to be short pay at lower denoms, but FPJB at quarters. The STP
were next to "Big Split" machines, but I didn't know anything about
how to figure those out.

Got comp to Steak & Seafood restaurant. The food was good, but as a
basically low-class person myself, I do hate it when well-dressed
wait people stop by the table every few minutes to see if they can do
anything for me.

HEY STU -
Good report. Glad to read you returned to Reno. Last report I
remember you were at El Dorado and weren't sure when you'd get your
next casino visit.

Seems to me you were always careful to train on a game's strategy
before risking real money - have you done this with Multistrike? I
trust you realize that there are special holds for all games on
levels 1,2 and even level 3 on MS. Dancer shared his MS- JoB
strategy and someone else (sorry - I can't remember who) shared a
FPDW strategy on a website. The links are findable thru a search of
vpFree messages. They are significant changes, f'rinstance holding 2
Hi cards over low pair in JoB. I haven't seen a strategy for MS-
NSUD, but I'd guess it's "close" to the one for MS- FPDW. Anyhow, if
you're tossin' Benjamins into 5-play MS, I think you need to master
the strategy changes. Even with nickels, we're talkin' big bucks, $5
per deal.

Your fancy restaurant anecdote got a chuckle of familiarity from me.
I, too, have a self-image of being just some slob, but that's what I
like about the fancy hotel/casino/restaurant "experience" - you are
treated like a big shot upper crust dweller. Got to GO with it! I
find myself dressing nicer in Reno than I do for my job in Seattle.
And a good waiter only stops in once or twice to see what else you
need, but there was one busboy at Peppermill that stopped in every
five minutes with a crumb-brush to sweep away those pesky bread-
crumbs that appeared with every bite. THAT was too much for me - I
told him to get lost.

And as far as that "well-dressed wait person" goes, I got more news
for you - their request to "help" you is rhetorical - it's either a
maitre d' or a useless manager in a suit. They wouldn't want to be
seen actually helping you - they'd find a busboy to fill up your
water glass if you say you need a refill. So the only answer to the
Suit is "Everything is fine...." The busboy will come by before the
suit finds him and you can ask him for water yourself.

The restaurant manager's main job seems to be looking out for the GM
who pops in for spot-checks, and keeping him out of the kitchen where
the scalloped potatoes just got tossed into the garbage as they got
burnt. When he comes around smiling and table-hopping and asking "Is
everything to your staisfaction, Mr. Stu?", he is just killing time
until his boss comes around again.

Sounds like Atlantis was fun, that's good to hear.

Hey, Mark. Even though I didn't know about the 5-play multi-strike at
Atlantis, I did know that they had single-play multi-strike, so I
brought along strategies. The NSUD strategy isn't so hard; hands like
4-flushes & 3-royals go down in value at lower levels; you don't draw
to 2-royals or 2-pairs or dbl-ins-3-SFs at lower levels; etc.

So I think I got the hang of it pretty quick. And there was the extra
satisfaction of knowing how few people play that machine "correctly,"
even fewer than VP in general.

I know that MS improves the odds over the base game, but you still
can't get an edge with NSUD. I don't mind this, particularly since
this was a social trip (my mother was visiting), & I figured the 5-
play MS would rack up the comps. Playing max nickels on this machine
seemed to drain the wallet (in between the quad-deuces or wild-royals
on the upper levels) much more slowly than single-line dollars. And I
did end up getting basic room comp plus buffet, seafood, & coffee
counter.

(On the other hand, I was surprised at how fast my money disappeared
in Super Times Pay, even at the triple-play level. The machines
themselves go very fast, the strategy is easy since it's just like
regular JOB, & the fact that it's 6-coins per line instead of 5 adds
up!)

Yeah, I have fun with that sometimes. Earlier in '04, I went to
Tunica with a friend who played only slightly slower than I, so we
both got comps to the steakhouse. He was new to the game, & really
felt like it must be a case of mistaken identity, the way we were
treated as if we had class.

The Atlantis steakhouse dinner was around 6pm on a Monday, & the
crowd was pretty sparse. Maybe it was the timing, or maybe not so
many people go there if they're not comped? So I guess the staff had
little to do with so few customers.

Anyway, I did have a ball. We even ordered escargot appetizer (it was
great), the type of thing I'd never do in ordinary life.

Best of luck in the new year.
