Atlantic City

We have never been to Atlantic City but with airfare there being 1/3 of Las Vegas we are seriously considering a visit. I can get a comp room at any of the Harrah's properties. Given that my spouse loves the Wynn and live poker, and likes GVR, which properties would have the best chance of satisfying her taste and desire for cleanliness?

Unfortunately Harrah's properties in AC don't have the best live poker. I'd suggest Harrah's and going over to the Borgata for her.

I believe that it completely depends upon what she is looking for. The weekend before last I was at AC Harrahs and they had a solid 30 cash game table going. Granted every single one of them was 1/2 and 2/5 NL and 2/4 limit, but there was little wait and very loose juicy games. If your wife is a NL winning player at Wynn she will kill at Harrahs. If she is a limit player then Borgata is definitively the way to go. Taj spreads some different games, but is just nasty in my opinion. Showboat (another Harrahs property) has basically the same action as Harrahs. Hilton poker room is closed, Resorts is a table in middle of gaming floor (smokey, disgusting, crowded). I have never liked Ballys or Ceasars poker rooms, though I have ran very, very well at Ceasars. Trump Plaza has the stupid electronic tables and Trump Marina has nothing.

Summary : Harrahs and Showboat has plenty of 1/2 and 2/5 NL and 2/4 limit, nothing else. Both are clean and nice. Showboat has automatic shuffle, etc. Showboat also arguably runs the best tournaments in AC (fee to entry % pretty good for B&M tournament). But the be all, end all in AC is Borgata.

Toss up for me between Harrah's Resort and Caesars. Both are nice. Harrah's is large, has I believe 4 or 5 different hotel towers, and has a nice pool. Caesars in on the beautiful boardwalk right next to the calming Atlantic City. Caesars has my favorite rooms in Atlantic City (Centurion Tower) and the Pier at Caesars. If you can handle some "less then desirables" on the boardwalk and laugh off the rare approach from a lady of the evening if playing very late at night, then you will be fine at Caesars.

Just an update, Hilton has 4 poker tables on the casino floor, and the electronic tables at Trump Plaza are no longer.

There are a lot of good deal's in hotel rooms in AC right now. Even if you dont get a comp, you can probably get a room for about 50 or 60 buck's a night, except at the Borgota.
