Atlantic City Transportation

Can anyone tell me how to get from the Philadelphia International
Airport to Caesars Atlantic City. I know there is rail system that I
can take but I am not sure how close it is to the airport and what rail
system do I take? Is the rail system safe?

Hi Nicole,

I've regularly taken the train between "Center City" Philly and AC and
find it a reliable, comfortable and inexpensive transport.

However, the mechanics of a transfer from the Airport to Center City
to AC is time consuming and a pain if you have more than one piece of
luggage, or the luggage is heavy/bulky.

You're talking about 3-4 hours for a trip that is 1 hr by car: A wait
of up to 30 min for a train at the airport (they run every 30 min),
about 25 min to C.C., up to an hour's wait in CC (typically it's only
15 min or so), 90 min to AC, and up to another 1/2 hour wait/transfer
on a free shuttle to Caesars.

Luggage must be stowed on overhead racks. As my wife will tell you,
don't expect anyone to assist you with a heavy piece (even someone
sitting at risk of a 30+ lb piece crashing down on their head should
you drop it ... an endearing trait of the east coast we've learned to
"love" after our reloc from the midwest 25 years ago).

I suggested the train as a novelty to friends coming in from NM last
year ... I'm still shirking from the withering looks upon meeting them
in AC

Still, you can't beat the cost -- less than $15 pp.

-- If you value your time, you may wish to look into a shared van at a
cost of a little over $100 pp from the airport. Someone this summer
reported taking Rapid Rover this summer at a cost of $105 pp + tip
with only a 10 min wait on arrival after calling for their scheduled
pickup (reportedly the cost increased to $120 pp at the latter half of
the summer). 90 min later they were settled into their room, relaxed
and rarin' to hit the machines.

-- You can also go with the option of a car rental for around $50/day.
Additional cost would be gas, plus tolls of $8 RT. AC casino parking
is $5/day, but generally free with a premium player card from the
casino at which you park, such as Harrah's Diamond.

-- A taxi will run around $150 ... although it's been a couple years
since I last priced it.

Let me know which sounds most appealing and I'll respond with detailed
info to get you to AC.

Cost is $120 each way for up to 2 people. They are very prompt on the
return trip and have always showed up within the 15 minute window they
provide.

I have often used Airport Chariot. Last year they cost $95.00+ tip for up to two people and
they use very comfortable sedans.

Thanks for correcting my "pp" notation

OOPS! I hit the wrong button on my computer. Sorry bout that!
I've taken the train to the airport when I've gone to Vegas and other place's. It's a little bit of a pain, because you cant always time your flight to the train, but it sure beats paying 7 bucks a day or whatever to park at the airport.
When gas was 4 bucks-plus a gallon, my wife and I took the train to Atlantic City from our home north of Philly. They run free shuttle's from the train station to all the casino's.

Just a follow-up FWIW anecdote re PHL/AC transportation options (see
prior discussion below):

Bev was to meet me in AC Fri pm, coming into PHL from Houston. When
she got to baggage claim, gave Rapid Rover a call ... they quoted 45
minutes.

A little beat down by the trip, she went to the ground transportation
desk and asked if they had other options. They connected her to a
company who said they could have someone pick her up and take her to
AC for $120 (the same fee has Rapid).

If you find yourself scouting transportation on the fly, you might try
calling:

Atlantic Limousine Service
towncarforhire.com
215-727-4647
610-659-8513

(I'd imagine an advance reservation would be at a significantly higher
cost.)

···

------

The car picked up Bev in less than 10 min. It was in good repair, but
obviously had a fair amount of mileage on it. (Bev estimates 150K+
mi, nothing wrong, just modest visible wear)

She found the driver engaging and entertaining and they enjoyed a
spirited discussion that whisked the drive away. He was a Nigerian
getting a masters degree in mech engineering at Drexel. They spent
the entire time discussing politics (a dangerous topic around Bev
She was impressed with his knowledge of the US scene and fascinated
with what he had to share about politics back home.
