At what point do they make you fill out a W2-G?

In the case you mention the machine will either call for a handpay of $1000
or if it is a "Ticket In Ticket Out" machine will immediately print you a
ticket for the $1000. In either case the other $300 is still on the
machine. One slight error below that it is $1200 not over $1200. I have had
two exactly $1200 wins both of which generated a W2G. The last was four
dealt threes on a $1 Triple Play 8-5 Super Aces game.

The threshhold is $1200.

I know if you win more than $1200 in a single hand, you get a W2G.

but how about if u put in $300 in the machine, hit a $1000 royal, and
cash out for $1300?

(maybe this should be in the FAQ?)

Just a slight technical correction. Some TITO machines are set to pop out tickets if the balance will be over a given threshhold, $1200 frequently. But they don't have to be and not all do. I've seen the meter well above $1200.

Also, some TITO machines will lock up for all Royals as at the Palms. Again, the operator can set these parameters.

well, i hit the royal ($1000) and had $100 in the machine. it did not
auto print out. however, the next button i pushed was 'cash out.'
dont know what would have happened if i would have played another
hand.

based on Karen's (krallison416@a...) response, i only get a w2-g if a
single win is over $1200, and not combined wins over $1200. can
anyone verify?

Let me repeat -- it is verified! You could have hit another $1000 Royal and printed a $2100 cashout and not gotten a W2-G

The win on a single hand has to be $1,200 or more, not >$1,200.

If you hit multiple hands totaling $1,205, you will not receive a W-2.

Remember one play on a multi-line game (triple play, five play, etc.)
counts as a single hand. E.G. you are playing $1 10/7 DB and triple
play, betting 15 coins (max coin on each line) and get dealt four
threes...payout is exactly $1,200 and you get a W-2.
