Aria Invitation (kinda, sort of)

it does say to contact your mgm host. you might get comped through
her/him, based on your play at other mgm casinos.

I received a gorgeous brochure with an invitation to Aria at City center
when it opens in December. "THE REST OF THE WORLD WILL SEEM SO ORDINARY" it
starts. The Sky Suite rooms will have floor to ceiling windows with great
views.

Yet one thing was missing from the "invitation"- I never saw the word
COMPLIMENTARY anywhere.

Without mentioning that small detail to a friend she agreed with me that
the place looks awesome.

"But what makes you think you're staying there for free?", she asked.

Good question.

Since I was still curious I dialed the toll-free number on a Saturday.

"Please call during normal business hours Monday through Friday. Thank you".

Huh? A fancy shmancy place like Aria at City Center can't afford to pay a weekend operator?

Not discouraged, I called back during the week and asked about the beautiful Sky Suite that I would enjoy.

"Oh, that's not for you to actually STAY there. The brochure was an invitation to PREVIEW Aria. Would you like to check room rates?".

I explained I don't normally pay for casino rooms.

"Then we would be happy to pick up charges based on play during your stay".

I paused, knowing that there is a 0% chance I would respond to any offer as vague as that.

"No thanks".

I accept that Aria's first wave of marketing takes this approach. Eventually, I suppose the MGM-Mirage system will be integrated to more appropriately reward current players with specific Aria offers. And while contacting a host now might be productive, I would at least like to know what playable VP Aria will even offer before making any commitments.

In that regard, I predict that Aria will follow the trend of full-pay games only at higher denominations. But I do hope you locals at least get a shot at some decent short-term $1 (and perhaps even a few 25c) "pickings" during the opening weeks.

Out of curiosity what is your status at Bellagio, meaning if you called Bellagio what would they put you in at?

I haven't stayed there in over a year. Was RFL at that time. I thought Mirage was a better deal for VP anyway since Bellagio only had multi-line 9/6 Jacks at the $10 level and up. That's too expensive for me.

I max out at $5 5 Play for two other reasons: first, drawing a 4K is a non-taxable $625. Second, a dealt FH is also non-taxable at $1125. The less W-2Gs I have to worry about, the better. At higher income levels they substantially inflate your Adjusted Gross Income which can adversely affect your tax liability in spite of the losses you later itemize.

I play at the same level you do and the $10 multilines are too rich for my blood too, though sometimes I take a "pot shot" at them - but I still end up with plenty of Wsgs and the same tax issues you do. Even on $5 multis, I get too many w-2gs
