Argosy Trip-I'm Jinxed

Went to Argosy-Lawrenceburg Sunday, saw the $1.00 DDB progressive was at $4500 when I arrived at 9:30 a.m. I played 4 hours, hit 1 4 of kind, queens for $250 and proceeded to go through $4000 and never hit another 4 of a kind. I think I'm snake bit, although I must say I didn't see or hear anyone hit anything. Mind you, I have Winpoker at home and play at least an hour a day, play fast and perfect. Very discouraged. After 10 years of playing I'm not sure about this anymore.

I feel for you.
Had a similiar experience at the the Palms this trip.
Was doing OK for the trip, hit a royal on the .25 dueces progressive and quad dueces a couple times at .25 level on same bank.

The double bounus progressive (10-7 pay) was over 4400 (rarely gets over 4200).
Regular player told me this too, and predicted it would be hit in less than 2 hours.
Bank begins to fill up, I jump in...yes it hit, but not mine, in less that 1:30 min. I play fast and also practice with win poker (not perfect, but pretty close)...Never hit a quad of any kind.
Blew off my trip winnings, pluse a bit more....not a happy camper with my decisions.

Lots of reflections about VP playing after this trip.

This will probably fall on deaf ears as this is at least the second time
I've called you out on this for a post about Argosy, but after 10 years
of playing you may want to think more about game selection than a quad
drought as the source of your discouragement. You do realize that the
DDB game on the progressive at Argosy has a 9/5 pay table? Now I
certainly won't fault you for playing DDB, but I fail to understand your
infatuation with playing the 9/5 version on the progressive bank when
there is a DDB game in the same denomination (without progressive) that
has a 10/6 pay table just two levels below you. You won't begin to
approach an equivalent return on the 9/5 game until the RF is north of
$7500 which doesn't happen all too often there.

While the quad droughts will make the biggest difference in the short
term sessions, the slow bleed you are suffering from being shorted on
BOTH the full house and the flush will add up to an enormous
disadvantage over time. Just say no to DDB on the progressive unless
the Royal is close to $8K!!! And if it is at that level play the 9/6
Jacks instead ;-).

PS If it makes you feel any better I recently had a trip playing single
line 8/5 Super Aces where I only had one quad of any kind in 5700 hands.
I ended up losing 3210 coins that session. On the other hand I also had
a trip playing the same game where in 4830 hands I snagged Aces 3 times,
had 4 quads of 2-4 and 10 quads of 5-K. That trip was a 4600 coin
winner. I try not to get too worked up about the short term variances
especially when playing the high variance games. Instead I try to focus

I have to agree with Spartan. A 20% bleed over a few hours is quite possible playing DDB and it has happened many times to myself. If you were playing the 10/6 version and assuming you did around $20K in your 4 hours, which is about right for a fast player, then you be $500 richer just from the full houses and flushes.

I used to play the 10/6 DDB at Grand Vic and I have lost $500 in an hour playing quarters!

If you don't believe in the math, stop playing the game.
