Are Multi-Game Machines Multi-Losers?

The last couple of times I played--and, especially, last week when I hit disaster for me--I had slipped over to some 3-5 multi-game machines, playing mostly 9-6 JOB. On the last day I had thought about it a bit and decided that the 'fun' of multi-game did not make it equal to single-game machines. Went back to $1 9-6 JOB and held out for hours without losing a thing. Have some of the experts figured out the odds on this? It did strike me that when I am picking out the 'holds' in the bottom row, I am not making educated 'holds' in the rows above that. True? How dumb was I? Ray

Cancel, cancel. I was being dumb when I was thinking about this. I was completely forgetting that none of the cards above the first hand had even been chosen yet! It will only take me a few more years to learn this game! Ray

The other issue is whether you were adequately bankrolled to play a multi-play machine. Bankroll for 3/5 play is going to be 50-100% higher than single line.

Since you are playing IDENTICAL dealt hands on all lines,
why would held cards be different on rows other than the
bottom row?

~Babe~

P.S. Though this is purely an anecdotal experience, when my
single-line play has taken a downward spiral, I usually move
to 3/5 multi-line 9/6 JOB. for the low variance and potential
bankroll building. This has been a succesful play for me on a
multitude of occasions.

Players overlook the importance of bankroll and instead selectively remember rare instances of great dealt hands they've had on single-line games. So, they approach multi-plays with unrealistic expectations and can get wiped out in a hurry.

Games with multipliers feed into the same fantasy. I once was playing 10 play STP, got the 5X and then cheered at a dealt 4K. But that one instance was more than offset over time by many "wasted" multipliers (with no paying hands) and the game itself depleting me with the 20% higher bet every hand. So, I don't approach STP underfinanced and "expecting" that one great hand to occur again.

My rule of thumb with multi-play is similar to Kelso's thinking: just halve the denomination to play more lines. A dollar well-financed single-line player can probably play a 50c 3/5 play and hopefully have a fighting chance.

Bankroll question? If playing a 100.00% return game, 100 play 5 cent denomination, $25.00 a hand. What would be an adequate bankroll for this game. Just trying 2 get an idea of bankroll needed 4 100 play with 100% return with free play and other perks. Thanks
