April Peppermill Trip Report

I set up a visit with my two younger brothers.
One had Pepps history and got a comped room and even got a surprise $300 freeplay offer after trip had been arranged.

thurs day 1: gaming 6pm - 5am after oceano dinner. my brothers had planned to play a lot of live poker- tourneys and ring games, but ended up just doing tournaments and played video poker the remaining time. they stuck to quarters and 50c BP and JoB, I did my usual mish-mash of 50c, $1, $2 single, three and five play BP, DDB zZNSUD and a little JW. 19 jackpots over $100, 625 & 800 being the best. slot machine message voice: "Congratulations. You won <pause> a lot."
DOWN 3050 on the day.

fri day 2: gamin 2pm.-1am with a (disappointing)dinner solo at Chi & a $100 entry poker tourney at 6:30, where I only lasted about 45 minutes. 34 video poker jackpots over $100, best were $625, 800 & 1000 (quad wild 2s playing $1 coin.) no royals, no tax forms, no profit. lost my starting stake plus almost another $1000 atm withdrawal.
DOWN 1750 on the day, down 4800 for the trip. Ugh!

sat april 10 breakfast w/bros at coffee shop about 11am VIP poker tourney "qualifying round" at 1PM, crapped out 5th when top 2 at each table qualified for final round sunday. hit the $2 x3 line Bonus poker in high limit and scored dealt quad Aces for $800 X 3 and my first tax form ($2400). 1/2 hour alter scored quad A's with a kicker on $1 DDB for $2000 and suddenly I'm only down $500 for the trip. Mood change. dinner at 5pm at Oceano then another $100 chance to qualify for the VIP poker tourney finals. I do it! I'm IN with 29 others for Noon Sunday. younger bro finishes 2nd in the $100 6:30 tourney for $650 prize. Dribble away 500 on vp, calling it over about midnite.

sun april 11
room service breakfast. up 150 on vp short sessions. Tourney at noon. competition is much softer than the "open to the public" $100 tourneys. These VIPs aren't big hold'em poker players. I make it to the final table of 10 where there's about 10 min of scheming to chop the prize pool of about $23500 ten ways. negotiations break down and I state I don't wanna chop nothing. Players bust out regularly and I'm doing some of the putting out. I got a decent stack of chips and I'm getting good hands and making good decisions to stay in with marginal hands when I hit some flops. Within 45 min it's heads up- just me and a bearded guy with a big hat. He's in too big a rush to get it over, I know how to play heads up (from playing online)and I take him DOWN. I win. Guess how much cash I get?

I can't wait to tell bros, Both are still in the 1:00 tourney and I flash my two $5K bindles and get high fives. None of us can believe it.
I head out for some $1 play and hit a $2000 Quad A w/kicker but I lose 800 to the $2 x 3 line in high limit. room break to fondle my wad of $100 bills and take a shower. Great dinner at Bimini steakhouse and we send younger bro off in a limo to the airport on his flight home.
Other bro & I enter the evening $30 tourney, but we don't finish IN the money. I head to high limit & find a multi-line machine with the nice noises that is the only one left- and hit my first Royal for $4000 playing $1 five-line BP. I give back 3000 of it the rest of the evening, including -1000 on $1 BP x 5 and -1000 on $2 JoB chasing a $9550 Royal pot.
12 vp jackpots over $100 on the day, with a 2000 quad and a 4000 RF
UP $1650 on vp for the day.
UP 10,000 more on poker tourney up $10,000 on the trip, figuring in $200 in tips.

mon, april 12. remaining bro & me drop $300 on 50c JoB with progs at the cabaret bar. switch to another bank & I hit a $2000 quad ace with kicker playin $1 ddb. Sweet. drop 300 more in a last ditch $5 NSUD run. We limo to the airport and say good byes, great tour. I drop 200 on ugly airport JoB. Travel goes well. and GF picks me up at the airport.
UP $900 on the day, up $900 on vp for the trip
up $10,900 for the trip
Suite & two rooms fully comped. all food fully comped.

I skimmed through it. But the gf and I were over there on Saturday for a better part of the day (played at the Fish Bar and at the crap table) If you were anywhere around the crap table, I'm sure you heard us screaming.

The food was fine at CHI, but what I ordered came without any veggies, so I ate just chicken and rice - would have been better had the waiter mentioned it so I could have ordered a side dish of veggies of some sort. Actually, the service was impeccable and the seafood egg rolls appetizer was delicious. Prices were reasonable and quality was fine.

Comped meals always taste good :wink:

Oh- and by-the-way, you can't deposit over $10,000 thru the bank drive-thru: you have to go inside so they can fill out that "money laundering" form to report big cash transactions. <sigh> such troubles.

I didn't want to post the photo of me with two $5K bindles prize from hold'em VIP tournament win. Best to stay incognito - but supposedly my photo was on the poker room screen for a little while: "tournament winners".

Used to go to Reno 6+ times a year from Oregon. Have been cut off from all offers at both casinos. Did about $300,000 coin in per two/three day trip. Played the "good" video poker. Has that happened to you?
