Approximating a Strategy for Downtown Deuces

I may play Downtown Deuces to earn my room and board for the few days.

I've never played DD before, and don't want to sit at the machine with
a 2-page strategy sheet on my lap.

I know the stategies for both FPDW and and 16-10 NSUD. Can anyone give
me a rough estimate of how using one of those strategies would fare EV-
wise on DD?

Also, are the swings in DD comparable to FPDW/NSUD (OK for me) or more
like Loose Deuces (kind of a rough ride in my experience)?

No need to provide precise perecentages; I'm just looking for general
guidance from someone who knows DD.

Thanks much.
The GMan

There are only a few FP Downtown Deuces left; two each, I believe,
at The El Cortez and The Vegas Club.

For strategy changes from NSUD and FPDW, see the excellent previous
post from Nudge51 (message #83949). It will provide all the
necessary changes you need to play this game.

Be prepared for a fun but wild ride.

Good Luck!

Thanks Babe, but it wasn't quite excellent. I had forgotten that I made that
post and even though I warned of how it might paste, I never did look at how
it posted, until today when I put the reference # in search. I would like to
clarify a couple of the entries. The last entry under 0 deuces reads "2 STFL
6,7 & 7,8 2 STFL W 1 ST PEN
AT THE LIMIT (T OR J ONLY) & 3 DIFF
SUIT DISCARDS > 2 ONLY" It should read "2 STFL 6,7 & 7,8 W 1 ST PEN AT UPPER
    LIMIT (T OR J ONLY) & 3 DIFF
SUIT DISCARDS. How I managed to put > than 2 only in a hand that
contains no deuces is beyond me. Also, this only works with the upper at the
limit discards because the lower limit ones are to close to da deuces crib.
The second vague line is under 1 deuce that reads "ALL 4 STFL w 0 OR 1 GAP >
PAT STRAIGHT**
** 4 STFL w 346 or 356 SUITED
What I was sloppily attempting to convey here is that in FPDW, we will only
break the 1 gap pat straight to draw to the 4 STFL if the top card in the
hand or draw is 8 or higher, but because of the extra pop for the STFL in
this game, we break them all, not only the one that I listed as an example,
but also 457 and 467 from the 7 high pat straight. Not sure if I didn't want
to clutter the sheet or if I got tired. (Note to self, increase Ginko Biloba
dosage tomorrow) Anyway, hope this makes more sense than my original post.
And to think I was hoping for a VP HOF nomination in a few years.

Be prepared for a fun but wild ride.

Ggman, she speaks the truth here. If DDW were a carnival ride, you would be
instructed to keep your arms and legs inside at all times, and on many days
you can't hardly wait for the damn game to come to a complete stop. The
variance is a little more than double that of FPDW, and the ducks make up
more than 8% of the game return, so the deuceless sessions will leave a
visible surgical scar on your bankroll. Good luck.

I printed and memorized your original post. Your strategy worked
well for me, Nudge. I thank you for taking the time to publish it.
I also have it programmed in both WP6 and VPW, and have practiced
this exciting game on my laptop for many hours.

IMO, If using only the most basic and simplified strategy, the SF
holds, both with and w/o deuces, are the most significant changes
that must be made from FPDW strategy.

I have been happily playing "Downtown Deuces" at the EC and VC, as
long as the game has been in existence. EH loved the dollar version
that used be quite plentiful at the EC. It's a fun, exciting game,
and can even be quite profitable.........that is, when it is not
taking giant bites out of your bankroll.

Thanks for your help!

REPLY: Thanks, Nudge. As I just emailed Babe privately, neither of
your replies arrived before I had to start playing, so I chose "the
Devil I know," which in this case was $10-7 DB. I was only $50 in when
I hit the quad Aces. After reinvesting $300 of that $800, I switched
to quarter BP to finish my required play. If I get invited back, I'll
ask my quarter-game questions and do my studying more than 12 hours in
advance.

Thanks again.

Nudge

I confirm the wild rides. Last weekend, I played DDW for 5 hours on Friday, at least 8 hours on Saturday, and 2 hours Sunday morning before my flight home. I was "deuceless" until ten minutes before my planned quit time on Sunday - held three and drew the last one. Ended up down $700 on my DDW play. Another problem is that the VC and EC DDW machines play sloooooooow. However, DDW has far better variance than LDW.
