Anyone Observing the PE Machines?

Hi,
Just came back from two nights in A.C.( bye bye MS). Anyway I took
a walk through Caesars. They have about 6-8 quarter PE and approx.4-
5 $ PE all with the lousy schedule. However just about all of the
quarter and half of the $ machines were being played. It got me
wondering..has anyone noticed if the now crappy $ PE at MS are being
played by anyone( or for that matter the $5 PE) ?

I was just talking about this with one of my VP friends a couple
nights ago. While neither of us will bother going to MS in the
future, he happened to be there a few nights after the downgrade. He
said that all of the $1 PE machines were occupied by the
normal "regulars" (when you play as much as we did, you start to
recognize faces). So it looks like a lot of people don't have the
self-control to stop -- exactly the kind of thing that will ensure
that MS realizes that they made the "right" decision.

Within limits, I can understand why some people continue to play
particularly if you live within an hour or two of the casino. If playing VP
on the weekends is strictly a leisure activity and going to AC is difficult
(driving to AC from New England is a royal pain) then playing a less an
optimal game is palatable. And the expense of flying to Vegas could wipe
out any benefits of playing at 99.9% at the dollar level.

What I don't understand is why you wouldn't as least play the best game
available assuming you know the strategy. The return on the reduced PE is in
the 97% area but I believe there are some double bonus playing over 98.
Volatility aside. However, I haven't checked these returns in detail so
please correct me.

My wife and I have been going to Vegas for about six years and have
noticed the changes that have occured there as well. Many Full Pay
machines have been downgraded and the denominations lowered on
higher return games. Many people we have observed do not play good
strategy as in Bob Dancers winpoker. The casinos are still busy and
I am sure it has improved their bottom line. I don't think most
people do not realize how poor a return the PE machines return now.
If they are still busy MS has no incentive to change the pay
schedule back. They could care less that the few knowledgable people
will stop playing them as they will more than make it up overall. If
they downgrade the JOB it will be time to say goodbye.

I can understand people playing casually on less than optimal VP
machines if they're out to have fun; the people I'm referring to are
there pretty much all the time (maybe 3-4 nights a week). Playing
the short-pay PE game will cost the $1 player about $100/hour (at 600
hands/hour), and that is assuming perfect play (you are correct with
the about 97% ER figure). I don't know many people that can afford
to lose that kind of money when they're putting in 20+ hours per week.

I've been to MS twice since the downgrade. I saw two people playing
full coin on the $5 machines. None of the regulars were playing. The
2 live $10 machines are constantly in use.
