We were at Red Rock this last weekend and the place was just jammed
packed.
Intersections close by Red Rock were gridlocked.
It's a very nice resort, and is truly a destination.
However, all parking levels and areas were completely full (and I mean
as in not one empty space full), police were directing traffic, and
very long lines at all eating establishments. The players club was
fully staffed though, and wait times were at a minimum.
I asked around as to what was going on. A "suit" who did not want to
be identified said that the Red Rock intentionally understaffed
becuse they did not want to have to lay off employees if the opening
was not as successful.
Huh? A new marketing strategy?
Well it seems that Red Rock is so successful that they are having
to pay a higher rate to get employees to leave their current jobs.
This includes employees at almost every level.
It was clear from our visits to other properties last weekend (yes
even the strip) that Red Rock was pulling business away from almost
every one in town. GVR looked like a huge tomb(their high limit areas
had very few players on weekend nights), and downtown (even the Golden
Nugget was having a light weekend) looked deserted.
There was almost no waiting anywhere at any restaurant on the srip,
and gaming tables every else were either not full or empty.
Give it a few weeks and the Red Rock will probably settle down.
It's worth the 11 mile trip from the strip, just to visit the place.
