Of the 3000 members or so out there how many of you can actually say in all

My partner and I are ahead-- for a period of about 5 years-- because
of one special royal flush I got. I can't tell you how far ahead
exactly, because our yearly gambling budget goes for craps and
blackjack, too.

Without that royal, I'd say we'd be down about $7-10K for the five
years. That's without taking into account free rooms and comps.

Mind you, we have perfect strategy memorized for the games we play
but we do not insist on the very best pay tables. We gamble on
vacation and we like to gamble where we stay.

My wife and I are ahead for the last five years simply because she
has been very lucky. We do not play that often, about four trips to
AC and one or two to LV each year. In our first year of playing VP,
1999, she hit a $4000RF on the dollar 9/6 Jacks at the Showboat AC,
this made us winners for the year. In 2000 we took our longest ever
gambling trip, nine days to LV. We stayed at MGM, for free since it
was a conference for my work, for four days and then went to Golden
Nugget for five days, which is where we normally stayed. Our
typical gambling trip to AC was two days and normal budget was a
thousand each day for dollar VP. I know that is probably not enough
but anytime we got down $800 on the first day we'd quit gambling and
save the rest for day two, and it had worked ok so far. Our worst
trip ever was losing $1500 and I was not about to take nine thousand
dollars for a nine day trip. So we budgeted $2700, $300 each day
and played mostly quarters on the strip. We had bad luck and were
down $1000 when we moved from MGM to Golden Nugget. Our room was
not ready at GN, so we quickly lost another $100 on the dollar 9/6
they had close to the North Tower elevators. It seemed to me we
were losing rather quickly at everything on this trip, we also play
blackjack. After we checked into the room we walked throught the hi
limit area at GN, as we are walking out I said I'm tempted to play a
hundred in the Five dollar machines, well Gail says "why don't
you". And I said "we're down $1100 what's another hundred I think I
will". I am totally convince we are throwing away another $100. I
sit down at the 9/6 flattops and after about 5-10 minutes am up a
little, don't remember exact amount. Gail says she wants to play
and I said fine, but we're only losing hundred dollars, and she
replies I'm going to win. She had only played a few hands when our
luckest moment of over twenty years of gambling occurred, a royal
flush on the draw for $20,000 jackpot. We really could not believe
it. We took a check for $18,000 and $2000 cash for the rest of our
trip.

Years 2001 thru 2003 have been mediocre, playing mostly 9/6 jacks we
have lost about $6000 of what we won that day in October 2000. I
guess you can't beat luck. We do both know the strategy for 9/6 and
practise a good bit on the computer before each trip. But luck
being on our side the first two years we played made the difference.

Bill and Gail in Virginia (and not close enough to AC to gamble as
much as we'd like, which is probably why we're still ahead)

I would imagine that even for some players who are
fairly serious now, it would be hard to answer with
regard to lifetime. Through most of the 90's I
enjoyed VP at Missouri and Illinois riverboats, but
wasn't interested enough to take the careful records I
do now.

I'm ahead (just barely) since I became a serious
player in early 2001 and started keeping records. How
much I'd have to be up to overcome the preceding
decade of Just Fooling Around With VP, that would be
hard to say.

Anyway, it's been a lot of fun!

I'm well ahead, but most of the LV locals on the list are - it's sort of hard NOT to be if you play enough and have taken full advantage of the promos and opportunities unless your luck is just plain BAD (Scott Krause and Anthony Curtis come to mind as famous luckless locals). As for visitors, some are going to be up, some not - not enough play to iron out the variance of the game.

A better question might be: how many LV locals out there NOT ahead lifetime?

1 even, maybe ahead

We are ahead lifetime win/loss with cashback counted in $14,000 as of
today. We are having a good year. The past three were not so good -- losers
even after cashback. Last year at our lowest point we were down about 4,000
after cash back. The place we have lost the most is in Las Vegas. We play
almost every weekend, mostly 3 or 5 play quarters or multiline nickel and
pennies. First ever full coin dollar royal and 50 cent royal this year,
plus a third carat diamond ring two years ago and approx $50,000 in comps
for the past 6 years with 410 free rooms. It has been a great hobby!

I'm inclined to agree with you. But after suffering a $16K loss in a
7 mo. period this last year on moderate $1 play, a reality check does
kick in ... even if it was THEIR money.

"their money" ... now there's a losing concept if I every heard of one

Have NEVER had a losing year
