Any subtle strategy changes from 9/6 JoB to 8/5 BP?

The ER of 8/5 BP playing a basic "non penalty" strategy is 99.164% If
you apply basic 9/6 JB strategy to the game, the adjusted ER is
99.161% -- a reduction of only .003%. (Data from Frugal VP software)

Unless your play is the picture perfect, it's a no brainer not to
sweat the difference.

The range of cost in ER is suprising.

The range of cost in ER is suprising.

I also recall an entire Bob Dancer article in Casino Player on the
subject. I can't cite a date, so you would have to dig in the
archives to find it. But several beginning, intermediate and advanced
examples demonstrated that the changes in play might make you "sweat
the difference" a bit more than you suggest.

That's a rather general, broad statement ... but, I'll note in reply
that I have a pretty strong quantitative idea of what I "sweat" re vp
strategy/cost.

Of course, in touching on Dancer's strategy levels you're moving
tangentially beyond the original discussion of what strategy
modifications one might make to 9/6 JoB strategy to best play 8/5 BP.
They're somewhat distinct topics, although both touch on how far a
player may wish to refine their play in pursuit of "perfection".

My suggestion is that a player who has elected not to play a
perfect-play JB strategy - e.g. plays the dealt hand {Ad Kd Td 5d 9s}
the same as {Ad Kd Td 5d Js} - has relatively little to gain, in the
scheme of things, from altering their 9/6 Jacks strategy to play 8/5 BP.

I'm not suggesting that the $.15/hr cost in doing so for such a $1
player is entirely inconsequential ... but they'd likely find more
savings if they brought their own water into the casino rather than
tip for the free stuff. (the players I know who do bring their own
water heavily sweat the penalty card in the second Jacks example above
-- this "suggestion" obviously isn't applicable in their case.)

The player requesting the "subtle" changes also stated he is playing
at the Bellagio. In that case, your idea of bringing water will most
definitely save more than my modest "adjustments". And for those
wondering where at the Bellagio, they do have a few 1-100 coin
machines with select full-pay games similar to those that at the high
limit area in NYNY.

OK, now my interest is super piqued.

I thought I'd be playing $2 8/5 BP at the Bellagio. Not my favorite
game, but the $200 free play and $250 FB will take care of that. Are
you suggesting there's a full pay at 5 coin (i.e., $1 machine) at the
Bellagio high limit room that's much the same as the ones at NYNY?

They're not in the High Limit room, but they are nearby as you walk by
towards the lobby. I believe I saw a bank of 4 of them. And they're
not "much the same" - they are exactly the same 1-100 coin as NYNY. I
was surprised to see them, because I had just been in High Limit and
was disappointed by some of the pickings. Just goes to show how there
are occasional "bargains" out on any floor. And you well know they are
subject to change and/or downgrading at any time. Might still be there
today, might be long gone.

Another surprise - not a soul sitting at any of them that afternoon.
