I'm visiting Vegas this weekend and will be staying at the
Stratosphere.
I plan on only playing Video Poker the entire weekend at both the
Stratosphere and also at the Palms.
Does anyone have any tips for me?
Like which VP Machines are better to play than others or if I should
try other casinos rather than the Palms and Stratosphere?

You should:
1. Read the VPFree database to see what VP opportunities are offered
at both properties as well as any others you may be thinking about
visiting.
2. Learn and/or practice the game(s) you have selected.
3. When at the Stratosphere, give them minimal play (a couple of
hours/day). This will be enough to generate future room offers.
4. Visit the Palms when you want to play serious money, as this is
the best place for VP that is anywhere near the Strip. You will have
to put in a decent amount of play, but you will get goodies in the
mail from them, too; and if I had a choice of which of the two
places to stay on my next trip, well....it wouldn't be the Strat.
5. Which game you play should probably be limited to the positive-EV
or breakeven games. The data is all there on this website. If you
already know 10/7 DB or FPDW, for example, you should look for
casinos that offer that game.
In any case, USE the information on this site. It's the most
complete and up-to-date VP info found ANYWHERE.

If you aren't currently a member of their players club you should
check if their 15% offer still stands for new members. They do (or
did) offer to return 15% of every dollar gambled in the first 20
minutes after you get the card. Well, that could add up to quite a
sum on a high denomination machine. Of course, you may lose your
shirt in those 20 minutes, but you get 15% of everything you gamble
back. Say, for example, you run $1000 through the machine ... you
get $150 back. The "catch" is you get it back on your next visit.
Check their website to see if this offer is still valid (and the
other details) and, if it is, then decide what, if anything, to do
about it. Good luck.
I think the strat's offer was capped at $100, I know the Stardust had
a similar offer for new members that was capped at $100.

Regarding #4: What kind of goodies can the tourist expect from the Palms?
Can the tourist who plays a few hours of $ DB a day expect more than a free
room? I play it exactly the opposite direction. I give them occasional
moderate play because of the pleasant surroundings, facility and excellent
vp inventory. Offers have tended to be few and lousy. I have found that
while the vp inventory is inferior in some other casinos I play at, they
more than make up for it with CB and free crap.. Umm, I mean room, food and
miscellaneous goodies up to and including cash.
