Any ideas on room cost at Bally’s/Flamingo?

My wife and I will be visiting Vegas for the first time in two years.
We would like to stay on the Strip this first trip back and are
interested in staying at Bally's or the Flamingo. We're both Total
Rewards card members but never gave a great deal of play and have zero
points due to the length of our absence form Vegas. Any ideas out
there as to how we might be able to get a better price on our room
than what's being offered on their Web sites? I've tried some of the
hotel search engines (i4vegas, travelaxe) and they're no better or
worse form a pricing standpoint. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Try this - http://tinyurl.com/gcj3p - this is a TripRes.com site
It is showing Ballys for as low as $80, and Flamingo for as low as $70.

Of course, "as low as" is a deceptive phrase. Your mileage would always
be worse!!!!

Realize that if you book a prepaid discount room, you will not be able to
get it comped no matter how much you play.

Many properties in Vegas are now claiming that by booking a room thru THEIR
internet site you will be guaranteed the lowest rate per night. MGM/Mirage/Mandalay etc guarantees this but as of now--I don't think that Harrahs does. However, you can find some great rates on their sites. For all the Harrahs properties--go to:

  http://www.harrahs.com/ads/vegas.html?source=AVA00000016590

Another strip property that often has very good rates and is at an excellent location is
Barbary Coast. Their room rate calendar shows rooms starting at $50/night---however most were $60-70-100--still not bad for the strip! Go to:
  http://www.barbarycoastcasino.com/

Another source for some good deals that include air/hotel together (NOTE: properties will not be able to comp your hotel stay using these packages--but they often are a good value for a first timer that is looking to establish some play. Plus at Harrahs you can use your points for food/meals) Go to:

http://www.dynamictravel.com/vegasdeals.htm (I personally have booked thru this agency and they are reputable and one of the largest agencies in the US.)

  Hope this helps! JH

If you are planning on flying out, try packaging the flight and hotel
on the airline's web site. We got the best deal on American Airlines.
We didn't have to pay extra booking fees that expedia has.

As one of the more uninitiated persons here, I would like to know the
lowdown on this.

You mean you can get your room comped after the fact? In tat case,
which is the worse offense here? Pre-paying for the room, or booking a
room from a discount site?

And then, how do you go about getting it comped?

Basic room comps 101....
If you think you are going to gamble enough at a casino that they may give you a discount or a comped room do one of the following......

1. Call the casino or book on the casino website.
or
2. If you have a slot card for the casino and have played at all, call the number on the back of the slot card to make your booking.
or
3. If you are going to be a substantial player, I know, I know .. what is substantial, well it depends,
At a major strip casino say 10k/per day coin in or better.
At a small downtown casino say 5k/ per day or better.
THEN
Call the casino and ask to speak to a casino/slot host, tell them what and how much you play, they may book you in at a casino rate or regular rate, or even comp you
up front if you have references from another casino that they can verify.

After you have done most of your playing at the casino, usually the night before you leave, but earlier if you have played a lot and are looking for a meal comp,
seek out a casino/slot host and ask them to review your play to see what they can do for you. If you arranged your trip with a host seek that host out (find out their work hours).
Charge all of your meals to the room ( I always tip in cash), and you may get lucky and have some of these charges comped off as well.

Regards
A.P.

accident.

The main thing to remember is once they take any money from you, it's
very tough to get a "retroactive" comp; i.e., have them credit your
credit card. Many hotels will charge you for half your stay before you
show up, particularly when you book onlne, and even through their site.
I have never had that comped back to me.
