knowing that vegas is the city of the imperialist dog - home of sin,
etc.
i don't want the war to get in the way of gambling(!!!), but i
wanted to know: how do vegasites feel about the coming weeks? has
there been any talk of security, etc.? i'm also unsure of what the
airlines will do...any insights?

Isn't the Imperialist dog the unofficial mascot of the Imperial
Palace? I'm not a local but in the event of war, expect long lines
at the airport security checkpoint due to increased scrutiny.
McCarran can be a pain in this respect in even normal post 9/11
times. I've also experienced trunk checks and warnings not to park
idling infront of hotel. Personally I don't think LV is any more
likely to be threatened than any other large city.

The real terrorist threat is the removal of FP machines. They probably considered all the biological possibilities and realized they could cause more havoc by eliminating all the full pay machines and changing the pay tables lower. Just look what it's done on this board in the last two weeks... crisis... they lowered the 100.7 machines to 100.1, how will I ever survive!! <G>

Here is my view...
Life is for living, not hiding in ones home. If terrorists are coming,
do you really think they will stick to airplanes. My point here is
that short of moving to a remote shack in Wyoming, it is really not
possible for one to anticitpate these things. In fact, increased
airport security makes it seem likely that the terrorists will seek
other means of attack.
From a purely statistical point of view, you are probably better off
flying to Vegas than driving to and from work, even with the increased
threat.
I would be slightly more worried that another massive air shutdown
could happena make getting home difficult. A trip to Vegas that
is sheduled immediately before some important event that you really
don't want to miss might be a bad idea.
And you thought the gambling was going to start AFTER you got off
the plane

Remember what happened when Frank, Dean, Sammy, and the gang ripped

We here in LV are completely safe. First of all you have to wave a photo ID at a guard to get into the garage at NYNY and a guard watches your car pull into the garage at Hard Rock. In either case all vehicles with Iraqi license plates and / or Al Qaeda bumper stickers will be prohibited from entering.
Also, we have lots of duct tape.
Seriously, it is stupid to change your life because someone, somewhere might attack one of tens of thousands of "desirable" targets in the US. Others have lived with constant terrorist threats for years. Did you see the British refuse to come into London or the government keep mentioning the terrorist threat at the height of the IRA attacks? I don't know why the motto of our govt is "Be Afraid! Be Very Very Afraid" rather than "We have nothing to fear but fear itself" but come to LV for fun and pleasure. The chances of anything happening are extremely small, probably the same as wherever you're from.

Whoa there Bill, that is not the motto of the government, either
expressed or implied. We've been told time and time again to be
allert, prepared, but to go about normal life to the best of our
abilities. But no one should ignore the threat, should they?

I'm guessing they have enough promotions to make the pick-em enticing?

We did some heavy play on two days last year, using our LVA double-point coupons. They have been sending us a lot of bounce-back since that time even with much lighter play.
