Another good trip to Oregon's Spirit Mountain

What can I say? As long as I keep having winning trips, I'll keep going back!

I made 3K this weekend and 1K last. Even though their uprights are painful, they sometimes dump the quads!

This weekend's trip was a roller coaster, as VP often is. It's the first time I've played mostly at the 2-dollar level (10 coins on the dollar 9-6 DDB machines).

I started at the 50-cent level and got a heart royal within the first 90 minutes of play. I upped it to dollars, got some quads, then decided what the heck? Why not up it to $10 a hand? And after maybe an hour I got dealt four aces and managed to draw the 4 for a nice 4K payout. (See photos on jackpot photo pages.)

And then 3 hours later got the four aces w/kicker again for another 4K payout. In 12 hours of play in session one, I was up $6,100. Considering I had 18K in W2-G jackpots (5 1,600 jackpots for other bonus quads), it seemed like I should have been up a lot more!

Session two started well and at one point, after 3 more $1,600 jackpots, I was up about 9,000 for the trip (22K in W2-G's). Not bad considering my starting bankroll was $1,250. But then came the inevitable slide: in eight hours I gave back $6,000 because of a complete lack of any bonus quad or royal jackpots. I still went home up 3,000, but with 22K in IRS jackpots, it just seems like it should have been more.

Looking at that 8-hour streak:
- If I play 800 hands/hour, that means I'm doing 8K per hour coin in at $2 level.
- So in 8 hours, that's 64K in coin in.
- So with 6K in losses, that means my EV was 90.6% on a 98.98% game.
- Just for fun I just removed the EV for the bonus quad hands of Aces and above, and the return comes out to about 89.5! So pretty much as would be expected in that kind of drought.

A 6K loss in 8 hours of $2 play is akin to:
- 3K loss in dollars.
- 1,500 loss in 50 cents.
- 750 loss in quarters.

So in the end, even though 6K in 8 hours seems harsh, it's probably not that an uncommon a bad streak ...

Next up: Will they send me any offers in the mail?

Congrats on the wins. Spirit Mountain awards VP points the same as slots, which is 1 point for $1 coin in. The points are redeemable at the rate of $1 or 300 points. They can be used for food, lodging, in the gift shop or for slot/VP play all at the same rate. I post that in case you weren't aware.

Spirit Mountain isn't great on sending offers. You'll get your monthly mailer, with cash back coupons each month. You'll also probably get slot tourney offers, but that's about it.

However, if you walk into the host office, and ask them for a particular comp, it will surely be yours. You can also call them to request free rooms, concert tickets, etc.

They aren't good at mail offers, but very generous with comps when asked at the host level.

Hi Kurt,

I tried calling the VIP office of Spirit Mtn last night and was only able to leave a msg, and they have yet to call back. I will try again tonight, even though it seems like they are ignoring me for some reason.

Keep trying. It's not unusual to go to voice mail, unfortunately. And return calls are rare unless you ask for a specific host. If you get voice mail again, ask "Becca" to return your call. Leave your coyote club card number in your message. Good luck.
